Job summary

Vale of Glamorgan Council is seeking a Cleaning Assistant to support the delivery of an effective cleaning service at Ysgol Y Ddraig, Llantwit Major. The role covers holidays and absences and involves assisting with training and site cleaning duties.

Hours: Monday to Friday; term-time 12.5 hrs/week (38 weeks) and recess 10 hrs/week (5 weeks). Pay: Grade 1, SP3 £25,949 pro rata, or £13.45 per hour, with main workplace at Ysgol Y Ddraig.

Qualifications

• Previous experience of working within the cleaning industry or a cleaning related discipline/environment.
• Basic understanding of the various cleaning tasks required to provide an efficient and effective premises Cleaning Service.
• Good verbal communication skills and the ability to converse with members of the public and client officers.
• Be physically able to carry out manual and active labouring duties.
• Must be able to work on own initiative and undertake duties in an effective manner.
• Positive and self-motivated with the ability to be flexible and responsive to changes in priorities and demands.
• Be prepared to work irregular hours.
• Ability to drive/travel throughout the Vale or between locations as appropriate.

Responsibilities

• To assist in providing an effective cleaning service to building cleaning clients
• To cover other cleaners during periods of holidays, sickness, staff shortages and other absences.
• To occasionally assist the chargehand /Site Supervisor with the training of cleaning staff.
• To undertake all aspects of cleaning tasks such as; carpet cleaning and steam cleaning, all site specification cleaning, builders cleans, recess cleaning and other cleaning not normally stated in the site specification.
