Job summary

5 Star Recruitment is seeking a cleaning operative to support the council’s in-house cleaning service across flagship buildings. You will contribute to exemplar cleanliness, participate in events and training, and work as part of a team to maintain a safe, clean environment.

The post requires knowledge of cleaning equipment, adherence to COSHH and chemical data sheets, and awareness of BICSc qualifications. A can-do attitude and ability to work unsupervised are essential.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of cleaning equipment used in a commercial environment.
• Ability to demonstrate colour coding for cleaning tools (mops/cloths).
• Awareness of or hold the British Institute of Cleaning Services (BICSc) qualification.

Responsibilities

• Provide planned, routine and periodic cleaning services reflecting building type and hours of operation.
• Ensure allocated areas are cleaned and maintained to the required standard.
• Minimise disruption to building users while performing duties.
• Follow safe working practices and clean per COSHH, colour coding and chemical data sheets.
• Ensure adequate stock levels and report shortages to line management.
• Carry out pre-user checks of equipment and operate only per manufacturers instructions.
• Report building defects to line management and assist facilities management to resolve issues.
• Complete attendance records and report sickness or absence to supervisor.
• Attend mandatory training (COSHH, Health and Safety, BICSc) and aim for BICSc certification as a minimum.
• Maintain issued uniform in clean condition at all times.
• Undertake additional duties to maintain/improve cleaning services.

Job description

This is a vital service that showcases the council in the best light as first impressions are everything, making sure high standard of cleanliness are maintained in the councils offices, for elected officials, staff visitors and members of the public ensures the right impression and helps to keep staff safe.

To ensure that the in-house cleaning service is a showcase of exemplar cleanliness, the post holder will work as part of a dynamic team to help maintain flagship buildings and be at the forefront of cleaning innovation and improvement.

This post is vital in ensuring day to day operations, events and training courses, can take place without hindrance in clean and safe environment.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES Responsibilities

1. 1. Provide planned, routine and periodic cleaning services that reflect the property type, usage and hours of operation.
2. 2. Ensure all allocated areas are cleaned and maintained to the appropriate standard
3. 3. Minimise disruption to building users whilst performing duties,
4. 4. Take cognisance of all safe working practices and clean according to specifications such as chemical dilution, colour coded cleaning equipment, COSHH and Chemical data sheets.
5. 5. Ensure there are adequate stock levels within the building and cleaning cupboards, reporting any shortages to line management immediately.
6. 6. Ensure all pre-user checks of equipment and machinery are carried out before
   use, only operating equipment in accordance with manufacturers instructions
   reporting any defects to line management immediately.
7. 7. Report any building related defects to line management immediately, for onward
   reporting to the facilities management help desk, working with the cleaning
   supervisor to resolve issues in delivery of the cleaning service.
8. 8. Ensure attendance records are completed and immediately report any sickness
   and unplanned absence to the supervisor in advance of the shift.
9. 9. Attend mandatory (CoSHH, Health and Safety, BICSc), and operator refresher
   training, as required and aim to achieve the British Cleaning Services Certificate
   as a minimum qualification.
10. 10.Ensure that the approved uniform supplied by the employer is clean and worn at
    all times.
11. 11.Undertake any additional duties in order to maintain and improve the cleaning
    services within Southwark council premises

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Knowledge, including educational qualifications:

1. 1.Knowledge of cleaning equipment and experience ofusing these in a commercial environment.
2. 2.Ability to demonstrate the cleaning industry colour codingfor mops and cloths
3. 3.Awareness of or hold the British Institute of Cleaning Services (BICs) qualification certificate

Experience:

1. 4. Demonstrable cleaning experience
2. 5. Excellent customer care, communication and team working skills
3. 7. Have a can do attitude and ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
