Job summary

Monmouthshire County Council is seeking a reliable Cleaning & Hygiene Operative to join the facilities team at Chepstow School in Monmouthshire. The role focuses on maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and safety to provide a welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors.

Alternate duties include safe operation of cleaning equipment, stock monitoring, and adherence to health and safeguarding procedures within a school setting.

Qualifications

  • Previous cleaning or hygiene experience.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Reliable and hardworking approach.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain standards.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Understanding of health and safety importance.
  • Willingness to follow workplace procedures and policies.
  • Welsh language skills are desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Sweep, vacuum, mop and wash floors and walls.
  • Dust and polish surfaces and furniture.
  • Empty litter bins and dispose of waste.
  • Clean toilets and other sanitary areas to a high hygiene standard.
  • Safely operate vacuum cleaners and floor-cleaning/scrubbing machines.
  • Use cleaning chemicals safely and correctly.
  • Monitor cleaning materials and ensure adequate stock is available.
  • Report faults or damage to cleaning equipment to the supervisor.
  • Follow the Council’s cleaning procedures and quality standards.
  • Follow health and safeguarding procedures.
  • Work effectively as part of the wider Facilities/Cleaning team.
  • Attend training required for the role.

Cleaning & Hygiene Operative

Location: Chepstow School, Monmouthshire
Employer: Monmouthshire County Council
Hours: 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 3:30pm–7:30pm
Pay: £13.45 per hour
DBS: Enhanced DBS with Children’s Barred List Check required

About the Role

Monmouthshire County Council is looking for a reliable and hardworking Cleaning & Hygiene Operative to join the Facilities team at Chepstow School.

You will be responsible for ensuring the school is maintained to a high standard of cleanliness, hygiene and safety, helping to provide a clean and welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors.

Working Environment

This is a school-based position, so the successful candidate must understand the importance of safeguarding and maintaining a safe environment for children and young people.

An Enhanced DBS check with Children’s Barred List Check will be required.
