Job summary

Swindon Borough Council is seeking a hands-on Cleaner to support housing services across social housing properties. You will perform cleaning tasks in occupied and void properties, ensuring hygiene and safety standards are maintained.

The role requires knowledge of health and safety, a full driving licence for use of a company van, and a positive, customer-focused approach to support residents and teams in Swindon Borough.

Qualifications

• Knowledge and experience of health and safety at work, especially manual handling, COSHH and PPE.
• Demonstrate knowledge of participating in good practices i.e. Health & Safety.
• Excellent customer service and a can-do attitude.
• You must have a full driving licence for this role, with a company van provided for Swindon Borough area.

Responsibilities

• Carry out cleaning duties across social housing properties as directed.
• Deep cleaning and clearance of void properties before new tenants move in.
• Routine cleaning such as mopping, dusting, window cleaning, removal of rubbish, sanitizing, and deep cleaning kitchen equipment.
• May include graffiti removal, decontamination, or needle sweeps.
• Maintain accurate records of work and adhere to council policies and safety regulations.

What You'll Do

• Carry out cleaning duties across our social housing properties as directed.
• Carry out cleaning in void properties: Deep cleaning and clearance of empty council homes before new tenants move in.
• To include routine cleaning such as mopping, dusting, window cleaning, removal of rubbish sanitizing, and deep cleaning kitchen equipment.
• May include graffiti removal, decontamination, or needle sweeps. You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act "for the effective performance of a customer-facing role").

Our cleaning teams work directly in residential areas in Sheltered Housing schemes, Supported Housing schemes and Void properties, providing a reliable and customer-focused service, while following council policies, health and safety regulations, and safeguarding procedures. They maintain accurate records of work completed and contribute to maintaining decent living standards across the council's housing stock. The role also requires effective tenant engagement, robust risk management, and a commitment to continuous improvement to safeguard residents, colleagues, and the wider community.
