Job summary

University of St Mark and St John, Plymouth is recruiting a part-time Cleaner. You will perform daily cleaning across university buildings to maintain a safe, hygienic and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors. The role is 12 hours per week, with shifts 06:00–10:00, three days weekly.

Experience is essential, and a cleaning qualification would be an advantage. Training will be provided through an induction programme to help you succeed in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Daily cleaning of offices, classrooms, labs, toilets, showers and event spaces.
  • Carry out initial checks of cleaning equipment for readiness and safety.
  • Report maintenance issues, faults or hazards to supervisors.
  • Use cleaning chemicals and equipment in line with COSHH and Health & Safety rules.
  • Clean and prepare student accommodation as needed, including multi-level areas without lifts.

Cleaner

12 Hours per week

Grade 2, £7886 (pro rata of £23,196)

Working Hours: 06:00 - 10:00, 3 Days Per Week.

As a member of the University's Cleaning Team you will be responsible for providing a high-quality cleaning service across all university buildings to maintain a safe, hygienic, welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Previous cleaning experience is essential, and a cleaning qualification would be an advantage. Training and an induction programme will be provided to enable you to succeed in this role.

What you'd be doing:
  • Daily cleaning of designated areas (offices, classrooms, labs, toilets, showers, event spaces). Includes vacuuming, mopping, dusting, scrubbing, polishing, and buffing floors.
  • Initial daily checks of cleaning equipment to ensure readiness and safe operation.
  • Reporting maintenance issues, faults, hazards, or incidents to supervisors.
  • Use of chemicals and equipment safely following COSHH and Health & Safety regulations.
  • Cleaning and preparation of student accommodation when required. A number of areas of student accommodation are on multiple levels with no lift access.
Where you'll work:

You will be based in the Campus & Commercial Team, on our green campus in the north of Plymouth.
