Job summary

Harrison County School District is seeking a Teacher Assistant to support student learning at 33 North Gulfport Elem/Middle. You will work under a certified teacher to implement individualized training plans and reinforce core skills in reading, writing, math, and social activities.

The role requires completion of at least two years of college or an associate degree, background checks, and a satisfactory employment record.

Qualifications

• Must have completed at least 2 years of college study (48 semester hours) or an associate’s degree, or meet a Mississippi standard of quality.
• All personnel must pass a criminal background check and a current child abuse registry check.
• A satisfactory employment record is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers in planning and developing individualized training programs for students.
• Participate in district/school professional development programs.
• Assist in daily and long-range lesson planning with the certified teacher (minimum 30 minutes per week).
• Model reading, writing, and speaking skills for students.
• Support students in basic language, reading, mathematics, and social skills activities.
• Monitor student work and report misunderstandings to the teacher for re-teaching.
• Provide escort and assistance to students as needed (cafeteria, restrooms, playground).
• Maintain student records and assist with educational displays.
• Assist in coaching physical activities to strengthen large motor skills.
