Job summary

Great Yarmouth Primary Academy is seeking an enthusiastic Classroom Assistant to support pupils’ learning and development, including one-to-one SEN support and small group work. You will assist with a modified curriculum and work under teachers’ direction.

The role focuses on helping pupils access mainstream learning, with training in SEND/EAL and language interventions. Fixed-term, 19.5 hours/week over 4 days, start Nov 2026, term-time only.

Qualifications

  • Good numeracy and literacy skills to support pupil learning.
  • Experience of working with or caring for children.
  • Experience leading interventions to support learning.
  • Ability to use a range of relevant technology.
  • Experience supporting children with SEND and behaviour needs.
  • Experience supporting children with EAL.
  • Experience teaching RWI phonics or SSP is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the instruction and guidance of teaching/senior staff.
  • Undertake care and learning programmes to support individuals or groups, including SEND/EAL.
  • Perform assessments and implement speech and language interventions.

Salary: Support Staff Pay Scale C: £11,806 to £11,991 pro-rata per annum (Actual) (£25,614 - £26,016 full time/full year equivalent)


Fixed Term: until 31st August 2027


Part Time: 19.5 hours per week over 4 days (5 hours each day from Monday to Wednesday and 4.5 hours on Thursday) (Start and finish times can be discussed at interview.)


Working Weeks: 39 weeks

Great Yarmouth Primary Academy is looking for an enthusiastic and inspiring Classroom Assistant to join our team, supporting pupils’ learning and development. The role involves working one-to-one with a specific student with special education needs in addition to small group situations. You will support SEN pupils who are struggling to access mainstream curriculum and supporting the teacher in delivering a modified support curriculum for them.


What You’ll Be Doing


  • Working under the instruction/guidance of teaching/senior staff.

  • Undertaking care and learning programmes and activities to support individuals or groups of pupils, including more specialised support for those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) or EAL (English as an Additional Language).

  • Performing assessments and implementing speech and language interventions.

  • Enabling access to learning for pupils and assist the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom.

The role involves supporting children in the classroom and small group interventions to support children to make accelerated progress. You should be able to work effectively as part of a team, following the direction of the teachers, as well as working under your own initiative.



  • Good numeracy and literacy skills.

  • Experience of leading interventions to support learning.

  • Ability to use a range of relevant technology.

  • Experience of supporting children with high needs SEND and behaviour needs.

  • Experience of supporting children with EAL.

  • Experience of teaching RWI phonics scheme or systematic synthetic phonics (SSP).

  • Experience of delivering NELI interventions.

  • First Aid training.
