Job description

We are looking for a committed and dedicated Secondary Teacher to join our team at a specialist autism provision on a Full-Time basis. This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children with autism, supporting their individual learning needs within a compassionate and inclusive environment. The ideal candidate will be deeply committed to delivering tailored educational experiences and cultivating a positive, supportive atmosphere where every student has the chance to thrive. If you have experience in special education and a genuine enthusiasm for working with children with autism, we would love to hear from you.

Unfortunately, this is not a position that we can offer sponsorship for, under the skilled worker route. To be considered for this role, you must live in the UK.

The role

As a secondary class teacher, you will support students with special educational needs, specifically autism. Your responsibilities will include planning a full range of sessions across the week to develop students' learning and independent skills. Due to our school expansion, this class is a new addition to Portfield School.

Our class staff work in partnership with our therapy team to deliver therapeutic input and enrichment opportunities aimed at building student confidence, personal development, and empowering learners to reach their full potential.

Our secondary students are working to develop their preparation for adulthood skills and the transition to our sixth form. An understanding of how to support students in achieving nationally recognized qualifications would be beneficial.

You will lead a team of teaching assistants who help the class run smoothly. You will have access to specialist facilities such as our therapy pool and sensory rooms, creating unique and inspiring environments.

About You

For this secondary phase of learning, we are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • Expertise in teaching and qualified teacher status
  • Ability to plan and deliver effective lessons to inspire, engage, and motivate pupils
  • A positive attitude and ability to remain calm, even under pressure
  • Experience of teaching students with Autism is desirable
  • Clear and effective communication
  • The ability to use your initiative
  • Ability to manage a team of teaching assistants effectively
  • Willingness to support all aspects of students' day, including personal care
  • Well-organized and keen to further develop your skills
  • Sound understanding of pedagogy and a creative approach to teaching and learning
  • A rewarding job, full of variety and opportunities for career development
  • The opportunity to complete an accredited qualification after passing your probation period
  • Access to an internal learning portal to enhance your skills and knowledge
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • A generous employee referral scheme – earn £400 for each successful referral
  • Benefits portal offering discounts on shops, restaurants, and days out, along with a cashback healthcare plan
  • A 24-hour Employee Assistance Programme providing support on issues like money management, family, and legal matters
  • Support from a network of Mental Health First Aiders
  • The opportunity to join our neurodiversity network to ensure neurodiverse voices are central to decision-making
Background

As a Teacher, you will undergo a 12-week onboarding program with in-house training and development courses to understand each student's needs and how to best support them. You will have opportunities to gain new skills throughout your career, such as learning sign language, becoming a training tutor, or completing NVQ qualifications for career progression.

We will request references prior to the interview due to safer recruitment practices. Please inform us if you prefer us not to contact your current employer for a reference.

If you have questions or wish to discuss the role further, please contact Charley in the talent team at 01202 084834.

Interviews: 22nd/23rd May 2025
