Responsibilities

  • Have a good knowledge of the National Curriculum and other statutory requirements.
  • Know how to respond to subject-related questions which pupils raise and ascertain the real point of the question.
  • Contribute to long-term and medium-term planning to ensure curriculum is broad, varied and relevant to pupils' needs.
  • Follow the school’s curriculum documentation regarding learning objectives, content, lesson structures and sequences.
  • Set appropriate yet challenging expectations for pupils’ learning and motivation, with clear targets building on prior attainment.
  • Identify pupils with special educational needs and provide targeted support within school systems, implementing and recording progress.
  • Ensure effective teaching of classes, groups and individuals to meet objectives, maintain momentum and use teaching time well.
  • Follow the school’s BASIC lesson structure and the school’s pedagogy, including review and retrieval, small steps, modelling, questioning, guided to independent practice, scaffolding, vocabulary development and live feedback.
  • Plan and implement appropriate adaptations so all pupils, including those with SEND, can access learning and make progress.
  • Use engaging teaching methods to spark curiosity, with effective questioning, clear presentation and good use of resources.
  • Provide opportunities for pupils to take increasing responsibility for their own learning.
  • Set high behaviour expectations and maintain discipline through focused teaching and positive relationships.
  • Evaluate learning objectives and adjust future teaching per the school’s assessment policy.
  • Monitor pupils’ work and learning, provide effective feedback and address misconceptions to support progression.
  • Use assessment data to identify pupils needing extra support and implement interventions; record and review impact.
  • Enter assessment data accurately onto the school’s tracking system and keep parents informed about attainment and progress.
  • Promote positive relations with parents, carers and the wider community and encourage partnership with the school.
  • Ensure reports to parents are provided in line with school timescales.
  • Relate learning to real-world examples beyond the classroom.
  • Liaise with agencies responsible for pupils’ welfare.
  • Take responsibility for professional development and keep up to date with research and developments in learning for the subjects taught.
  • Fulfil professional responsibilities in line with Teachers’ Standards and school policies and expectations.
  • Uphold the Staff Code of Conduct and protect the school’s reputation through professional behaviour and communication.
  • Contribute to the school’s ethos and culture, supporting colleagues and pupils and upholding the school’s vision and values.
  • Be an exemplary role model demonstrating the school’s Christian vision and the iCATCH values.
  • Evaluate teaching critically and use this to improve effectiveness.
  • Attend weekly development meetings and INSET within the directed calendar.

  • Be aware of and follow health and safety procedures for staff and pupils.

Job description

Knowledge and understanding
  • Have a good knowledge of the relevant aspects of theNational Curriculum and other statutory requirements.
  • Know how to respond to subject-related questions whichpupils raise and be able to ascertain the real point of the question.
Planning and setting expectations
  • Contribute to long-term and medium-term planning to ensurethat the curriculum is broad, varied and relevant to the needs of the pupils.
  • Follow the school’s curriculum documentation with regard tolearning objectives, content, lesson structures and sequences.
  • Set appropriate yet challenging expectations for pupils’learning and motivation. Set clear targets for pupils’ learning, building onprior attainment.
  • Identify pupils who have special educational needs, workingwithin the school’s systems to provide positive and targeted support. Implementand keep relevant records.
Teaching and managing pupil learning
  • Ensure effective teaching of whole classes, groupsand individuals so that teaching objectives are met, momentum and challenge aremaintained, and best use is made of teaching time.
  • Ensure teaching follows the school’s BASIC lesson structureand consistently adopts Bloxham CE Primary School’s agreed pedagogy, includingreview and retrieval, small steps, modelling, effective questioning, guided toindependent practice, appropriate scaffolding, purposeful vocabulary developmentand live feedback.
  • Ensure appropriate adaptations are planned and implementedso that all pupils, including those with SEND and other identified needs, canaccess learning, experience appropriate challenge and make progress.
  • Use teaching methods which keep pupils engaged, includingstimulating pupils’ intellectual curiosity, effective questioning and response,clear presentation and good use of resources.
  • Provide opportunities within which pupils increasingly takeresponsibility for their own learning.
  • Set high expectations for pupils’ behaviour, establishingand maintaining a good standard of discipline through well-focused teaching andthrough positive and productive relationships.
Assessment and evaluation
  • Evaluate how well learning objectives have been achievedand use this to determine objectives for future teaching, in accordance withthe school’s assessment policy.
  • In line with the school’s Feedback and Marking Policy,monitor pupils’ work and learning, provide effective feedback and ensuremisconceptions are identified and clearly addressed so that pupils can moveforward securely in their learning.
  • Use assessment information to identify pupils who requireadditional support and ensure necessary interventions are implemented, recordedand reviewed for impact, with a clear focus on securing progress.
  • Enter assessment and other required pupil data accuratelyand within agreed timescales onto the school’s tracking system. Use thisinformation to monitor individual and cohort progress, identify pupils at riskof falling behind and inform appropriate teaching, adaptations andintervention. Keep parents and carers informed about their child’s attainment,progress and next steps in line with the school’s reporting arrangements.
Relations with parents and wider community
  • Promote positive relations with parents, carers and thewider community by encouraging a working partnership with the school.
  • Ensure reports to parents are provided in line with schooltimescales.
  • Recognise that learning takes place outside the schoolcontext and provide opportunities to develop pupils’ understanding by relatingtheir learning to real and work-related examples.
  • Understand the need to liaise with agencies responsible forpupils’ welfare.
Managing own performance and development
  • Understand the need to take responsibility for their ownprofessional development and keep up to date with research and developments inlearning for the subjects they teach.
  • Understand and fulfil their professional responsibilitiesin accordance with the current Teachers’ Standards, school policies, proceduresand agreed professional expectations.
  • Uphold the school’s Staff Code of Conduct at all times andact in a way that protects and promotes the good reputation of Bloxham CEPrimary School. Maintain the highest standards of professional behaviour,integrity, confidentiality and communication, recognising that conduct andcommunication, including online and through social media, can affect publicconfidence in the school and the teaching profession.
