Job summary

Spinwell Ltd. is recruiting a Class C HGV Driver for a public-sector opportunity based in Crawley. The role involves delivering and collecting vehicles using LGV up to 26t from a central pool, with responsibilities across Surrey and Sussex and occasional evening/weekend work.

You will support senior management, load police vehicles securely, and maintain high vehicle standards while liaising with internal teams and external partners.

Qualifications

  • Hold a valid Class C HGV licence.
  • Experience driving LGV up to 26t is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver and collect vehicles using LGV up to 26t from the central pool location across Surrey and Sussex.
  • Provide driving support to Senior Management Team as required, including ACPO and the Chief Constable.
  • Safely load up to six police vehicles onto the vehicle bed, ensuring correct positioning and security.
  • Maintain high standards of vehicle cleanliness and upkeep in line with COSHH and safety requirements.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate vehicle movements and resolve issues.

Spinwell is recruiting for a Class C HGV Driver for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CLASS C HGV DRIVER
  • To deliver and collect vehicles using a multi vehicle Large Goods Vehicles (LGV) up to 26t, operating from the central vehicle pool location across Surrey and Sussex to and from workshops, accident repair centres, third party garages and dealerships, as well as internal operational teams and departments.
  • To undertake general duties as required. This will include, as and when necessary, providing driving support to the Senior Management Team, including ACPO and the Chief Constable.The role may occasionally require evening and weekend working, in line with operational demands.
  • To carry out discreet operations as and when required to move vehicles.
  • To clean and valet vehicles as requested, ensuring they are maintained to a high standard in order to provide a safe, clean and professional working environment for vehicle users, and to help uphold the professional image and standards of the Force.
  • To carry out cleaning and housekeeping duties within the workshop area and yard, ensuring all workspaces are kept clean, safe, and well organised in order to support operational efficiency and maintain a professional working environment.
  • To manage the local storage and control of site held stock, including screen wash, oils, and lubricants, ensuring all materials are stored, handled, and used in full compliance with COSHH regulations and general Health & Safety requirements for the workplace, as operated by the JTS team on site.
  • The Driver must be able to adapt quickly to changing circumstances, as planned routes may change at any time due to traffic conditions, road closures, weather, or operational requirements. The Driver will be responsible for promptly identifying and planning safe alternative routes, demonstrating quick thinking and sound judgement. This will require effective risk assessment and management skills to ensure the continued safety of the vehicle, load, and other road users at all times.
  • The Driver will be responsible for the safe and efficient loading of vehicles up to six police vehicles onto the vehicle bed, ensuring that all vehicles are correctly positioned, securely fastened, and fully compliant with relevant safety standards and company procedures prior to transport.
  • The Driver will be required to demonstrate initiative when planning journeys, ensuring that routes are organised efficiently and that fleet vehicles are transported safely and securely. The Driver must take all reasonable steps to prevent damage, delays, or unnecessary risk throughout the transportation process.
  • The Driver will be required to engage effectively with both internal and external stakeholders, maintaining clear, professional, and timely communication at all times. This includes liaising with colleagues, fleet teams, customers, suppliers, and other relevant parties to ensure smooth coordination of vehicle movements, resolve issues promptly, and support operational requirements.
  • The Driver will need to demonstrate strong problem solving skills to ensure that multiple vehicle types, makes, and models are loaded in the correct order. This includes carefully planning the loading sequence to ensure that weight is distributed evenly across the axles, maintaining vehicle stability at all times, and preventing any safety or handling issues during transport.
  • To undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade and nature of the role, as may be reasonably required from time to time. This may include carrying out specific duties associated with a similar or lower graded post, in line with operational needs and organisational requirements.
