Fusion People Ltd in North Devon is seeking an HGV Driver/Loader to support a Waste & Recycling team at their depot in Bideford. The role is hands-on, driving a refuse/recycling vehicle and working with the crew to keep kerbside collections running.

Dates are 24 July 2026 to 28 August 2026. Hours are 37 per week, 06:00-15:00, Monday to Friday with Saturday cover when needed. Pay is £14.59 per hour PAYE, with immediate start available.

Qualifications

• Full UK HGV license (Cat C / Class 2).
• Valid Driver CPC – 35 hours completed.
• Digital tachograph card.
• Good fitness for outdoor work in all weathers.
• Experience dealing with customers or the public.
• Ability to work on own initiative or with a crew.
• Understanding of health and safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Drive and operate a refuse/recycling vehicle on kerbside routes.
• Load domestic refuse and recycling with the crew.
• Tip and empty the vehicle daily.
• Carry out daily vehicle checks and report defects.
• Complete drivers hours book and weekly paperwork.
• Clean vehicle body and cab weekly.
• Be a professional face for residents and advise on disposal.
• Work to site health and safety practices at all times.

HGV Driver / Loader - Refuse & Recycling

Fused People is recruiting an HGV Driver/Loader to join the Waste & Recycling team of a local authority client in North Devon, based at their operational depot in Bideford.

This is a hands-on role for a driver who is happy to get stuck in, you'll be behind the wheel of the refuse/recycling vehicle and working the kerbside alongside your crew, keeping collections running across the district.

The assignment

Dates: 24 July 2026 to 28 August 2026

Hours: 37 per week, 06:00 to 15:00

Days: Monday to Friday, with Saturday cover required when needed (particularly following bank holidays)

Pay: £14.59 per hour, PAYE

Location: Bideford, North Devon

What you\'ll be doing

• Driving and operating a refuse/recycling vehicle on established kerbside routes across the district
• Loading domestic refuse and recycling alongside the collection crew
• Tipping and emptying the vehicle daily
• Carrying out daily vehicle checks and reporting any defects
• Completing the drivers\' hours book and submitting weekly paperwork
• Cleaning the vehicle body and cab at least once a week
• Being a helpful, professional face for residents, including advising on correct disposal of refuse and recycling
• Working to site health and safety practices at all times

What you\'ll need

Essential

• Full UK HGV licence (Category C / Class 2 as a minimum)
• Valid Driver CPC - 35 hours completed
• Digital tachograph card
• Good level of fitness, this is a physical role, outdoors in all weathers
• Experience dealing with customers or members of the public
• Confidence working on your own initiative as well as part of a crew
• A working understanding of health and safety, including manual handling
• Good verbal communication and a flexible approach

Desirable

• Previous experience of waste or refuse collection
• Educated to GCSE level or equivalent

PPE and dress code

Safety shoes, hi-viz jacket, ballistic trousers and wet weather gear are required on site.
