Job summary

DFDS is seeking an HGV Class 1 Driver based in Felixstowe to join our team. You will safely operate Class 1 vehicles across the UK, ensuring on-time deliveries while delivering excellent service.

You will hold a Full Class 1 (C+E) licence, DIGI and CPC, and bring pride in safety and reliability. DFDS offers strong support, modern equipment and a range of employee benefits.

Qualifications

• Full Class 1 licence with CPC and DIGI card.
• Experience with fridge trailers or curtainsiders is a bonus.
• Strong focus on safety and delivery of excellent service.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate Class 1 vehicles and make deliveries across the UK.
• Transport ambient goods using curtainsider/fridge trailers with loads secured.
• Complete multi-stop deliveries with high customer service standards.
• Carry out daily vehicle and trailer checks and report defects.
• Ensure transport documentation is accurate and on time.
• Comply with Drivers’ Hours, WTD and transport regulations.
• Keep tachograph data up to date and professional at customer sites.
• Support the wider transport operation to meet service levels.

About the role

As an HGV Class 1 Driver, you'll be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of goods using our modern fleet and well-maintained trailers. Based in Felixstowe, you'll play a key role in ensuring deliveries are completed on time while providing excellent customer service and maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance. You'll be joining a business that values its drivers and provides the support, equipment, and resources needed to help you succeed. You will be responsible for:

• Safely operating Class 1 vehicles and carrying out deliveries and collections across the UK.
• Transporting ambient goods using curtainsider trailers, ensuring all loads are secured correctly.
• Completing multi-drop deliveries while maintaining high levels of customer service.
• Conducting daily vehicle and trailer checks, reporting any defects promptly.
• Ensuring all transport documentation is completed accurately and on time.
• Complying with Drivers’ Hours regulations, Working Time Directive requirements, and all relevant road transport legislation.
• Maintaining accurate records and keeping tachograph information up to date.
• Representing DFDS professionally at customer sites and on the road.
• Supporting the wider transport operation to ensure service levels and delivery schedules are achieved.

About you

You’ll thrive in this role if you’ve got a Full Class 1 (Category C+E) licence, a valid DIGI card, and a CPC card. Experience with fridge trailers or curtainsiders is a bonus, but if you’re confident, safety-focused, and ready to learn, we’ll support you. You’re someone who works well independently, communicates clearly, and takes pride in delivering excellent service.

The fridge work involves a lot of city driving, especially in busy areas, so you’ll need to be confident handling a truck in tight urban spaces. A good understanding of UK driving rules and road safety is important, along with being able to manage your time and work independently.
