Job summary

The Medical Protection Society is seeking an experienced Claims Assistant to join their dynamic, member-focused Claims Handling team. You will manage your own small caseload and support Claims Managers and Solicitors, communicating daily with members and stakeholders by phone and email.

This role offers progression for someone with a legal or claims handling background, with opportunities to develop expertise in fast-moving, impactful cases and to provide tailored day-to-day support.

Qualifications

• Law degree or experience in claims handling or operations.
• Excellent attention to detail with high-quality work output.
• Ability to prioritise correspondence, urgent matters and workload.
• Warm and empathetic telephone manner with distressed members.
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a team.
• Understanding of confidentiality and handling sensitive information.
• Knowledge of Civil Procedure Rules desirable; experience in Personal Injury/Clinical/Professional Negligence helpful.

Responsibilities

• Provide tailored day-to-day support for our members, who can be vulnerable due to stressful circumstances both over the phone and email.
• Carry out administrative activities on our case handling system, producing accurate and meaningful updates to members and third parties such as external solicitors, members of the public and medico‑legal experts.
• Producing legal correspondence such as court documents and procedural letters at short notice.
• Reviewing large amounts of documentation, identifying the most urgent sections and escalating to senior colleagues.
