Job summary

Airswift is seeking a Civils & Structural Superintendent for an on-site role in Cornwall. The person will coordinate multi-discipline site works, supervise construction activities, ensure safety compliance and monitor contractor performance.

You will develop and implement plans for workface activity, review drawings, prepare handover dossiers, and contribute to monthly stakeholder reports. A strong background in onshore construction and BS5975 temporary works is essential.

Job description

Job Title: Civils & Structural Superintendent Duration: 12 Months Location: Cornwall

This opportunity is with an industry-leading global EPC contractor supporting the energy transition and delivering consulting services across the full asset lifecycle, alongside next generation project delivery and execution services.

The role is focused on onshore construction activity in Cornwall, with responsibility for coordinating multi-discipline site works, construction supervision, safety compliance, and contractor performance. This position offers broad technical scope across construction management, temporary works, commissioning documentation, and stakeholder reporting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct and coordinate large groups of trade personnel on site, ensuring safe and productive delivery of scheduled construction activities.
  • Plan workface activity and allocate manpower to maintain balance across construction priorities.
  • Monitor manpower requirements, crew efficiency, productivity, costs, and quality control.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction on work methods while checking completed work for compliance.
  • Act as site-based construction representation when senior construction management is off site.
  • Interface with contractors and subcontractors to ensure construction activities progress effectively.
  • Read, review, challenge, and interpret drawings across all disciplines.
  • Compile, review, and approve RFPs and CWPs across multiple disciplines.
  • Manage contractors across civil, structural, and broader construction disciplines.
  • Prepare and compile handover and commissioning dossiers in a multi-discipline environment.
  • Define and work within system boundaries during construction execution.
  • Prepare and contribute to monthly reports for stakeholders and board-level audiences.
  • Study relevant contract drawings, scopes of work, specifications, man-hour estimates, and material and equipment schedules.
  • Coordinate contractor supervisory staff to maintain clear communication and effective subcontractor control.
  • Implement the Construction Safety Plan and ensure compliance with construction methods, procedures, quality assurance standards, safety rules, and statutory requirements.
  • Ensure work is carried out in accordance with approved for construction drawings, specifications, applicable standards, and good construction practice.
  • Check subcontractor daily returns and progress assessments for accuracy and timeliness.
  • Respond to technical queries from subcontractors and escalate for specialist guidance where required.
  • Maintain awareness of workforce welfare and ensure teams remain informed on duties, policy changes, and site rules.
  • Inspect works for technical compliance with drawings, specifications, and scopes of work across multiple disciplines.
  • Review and approve test reports and technical documentation.
  • Highlight deficiencies and initiate and close out non-conformance reports.
  • Provide input to schedules and review contractor schedules and progress reports.
  • Instigate field change procedures when required.
  • Review and monitor contractor pricing and support commercial settlement activity where needed.
  • Support senior construction leadership as required.
  • Ensure the permit to work system is followed by site teams and contractors, including method statement and task risk analysis review.
  • Chair multi-discipline constructability reviews and workshops.
Required Education & Certifications
  • Journey level certification, if required.
Required Experience
  • Construction site experience in an onshore construction environment.
  • Experience leading trade personnel and coordinating contractor and subcontractor activities on site.
  • Core construction trade background with in-depth knowledge across multiple disciplines.
Required Skills
  • Ability to read, understand, and challenge discipline drawings.
  • Ability to manage construction contractors across multiple disciplines.
  • Ability to cost manage construction contractors.
  • Ability to compile, review, and approve construction work packs and related documentation.
  • Strong working knowledge of BS5975 temporary works.
  • Ability to carry out quantity surveying duties across multiple disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of safety legislation and associated responsibilities, including permits to work, CDM Regulations 2015, method statements, COSHH, and PUWER.
  • Advanced understanding of systems, processes, and tools related to the trade.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues and support others with technical and process-related matters.
  • Strong communication, influencing, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to review technical reports, verify progress, and manage non-conformance processes.
  • Ability to prepare stakeholder reporting and contribute to planning and scheduling activity.
