We’re proud to employ talented, driven individuals within the construction sector, and due to an ever-increasing workload, we are now looking to strengthen our commercial team.

With strong business on the books and many new and exciting projects in the pipeline, this is a fantastic opportunity to join a forward-thinking and progressive company.

We’re recruiting for an experienced Civils Quantity Surveyor to take responsibility for the commercial management of multiple construction projects, while also supporting their operational delivery from commencement through to completion.

This is a varied, hands‑on role within a smaller construction business, offering the opportunity to take full ownership of projects from both a commercial and operational perspective. The successful candidate will work closely with clients, Site Managers, subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring projects are commercially successful, well‑managed and delivered to a high standard.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Take responsibility for the commercial management of multiple civils and groundworks projects from commencement through to completion.
  • Prepare, manage and monitor project budgets, costs, forecasts and financial performance.
  • Prepare and manage monthly valuations, payment applications, variations and final accounts.
  • Produce and maintain Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs), providing accurate reporting on project costs, profitability and financial performance.
  • Identify, price, negotiate and manage variations and additional works, ensuring changes are properly recorded, submitted and agreed with clients.
  • Manage subcontractor procurement, including obtaining quotations, evaluating tenders, placing orders and agreeing subcontract terms.
  • Prepare and review subcontractor valuations, payment applications and final accounts.
  • Assist with estimating, tendering, project pricing and the preparation of quotations for new and prospective work.
  • Undertake site measurements, quantity take-offs and assessments of completed works.
  • Review drawings, specifications, contracts and project information to identify commercial risks, discrepancies and opportunities.
  • Monitor project progress against budgets and programmes, identifying potential cost overruns, delays and commercial risks at an early stage.
  • Act as a key point of contact for clients on commercial matters, maintaining strong working relationships throughout the project.
  • Attend site meetings, progress meetings and commercial reviews with clients, consultants, subcontractors and other project stakeholders.
  • Oversee Site Managers and site teams to support the successful delivery of projects, ensuring works progress efficiently and in accordance with agreed programmes.
  • Support the planning, coordination and management of subcontractors, suppliers, resources and project activities where required.
  • Liaise with clients, architects, engineers, consultants and other stakeholders to resolve commercial and operational issues.
  • Assist with project mobilisation, pre-construction planning and initial site set-up where required.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, commercial records and correspondence, including instructions, variations, valuations and progress updates.
  • Provide regular updates to senior management on project costs, profitability, progress, risks and key issues.
  • Ensure commercial and operational activities are undertaken in accordance with company procedures, contractual requirements and relevant legislation.
  • Support the wider team with other commercial and project management activities as required.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties required to support the successful delivery of the company’s projects.
  • Management of PQQ and pre-construction activities including H&S requirements.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • Previous experience in a Quantity Surveying or similar commercial role within the construction industry, ideally within civils, groundworks or infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of construction costs, commercial management, valuations, variations, subcontractor management and final accounts.
  • Experience preparing and managing project budgets, forecasts and Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs).
  • Good practical understanding of construction methods, site operations and project delivery
  • Willingness to take a hands on approach and cover the operational side of the civils division.
  • Commercially astute, with the ability to identify risks, manage costs and maximise project profitability.
  • Confident dealing directly with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and other project stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting project management, coordinating works or overseeing subcontractors.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and professional commercial and project documentation.
  • Confident, proactive and able to work independently while also working effectively as part of a wider team.
