Job description

Job Description

Orion Group is working with a successful and well-established Civil Engineering client to source a Civils Project Manager to join their team based in Northern Scotland.

As the Civils Project Manager, you will initially oversee a large Earthworks project to make way for a new Substation and associated buildings.

Applicants can be based in Glasgow or the Highlands until Q1 2026, after which they will be site-based on the Isle of Lewis for the duration of the project.

So, what are we looking for?

You should be skilled in delivering civil engineering projects, preferably with experience in large Earthworks projects within renewable energy, Power & Transmission, highways, or marine construction, exceeding £10m in value.

This requires a commercial mindset with a good understanding of commercial contracts (NEC3/4). To succeed, you’ll need excellent communication and analytical skills, alongside:

  • HND or Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Experience managing large-scale Earthworks projects.
  • Proven Project Management skills, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, and resource management.
  • Ability to implement quality management processes to ensure project standards and specifications are met.
  • Experience conducting inspections, audits, and quality checks for compliance.

You must be able to work at pace, with flexibility, agility, and resilience being key attributes.

Additional skills and experience that would be beneficial

  • Familiarity with heavy civil construction techniques.
  • Knowledge of MCHW or Grid specifications.
  • Understanding of the Scottish civil engineering sector.
  • Experience working in remote or island locations.

Please note: A valid UK driving license and the ability to travel to remote sites are required. All applicants must have the right to work in the UK, as sponsorship is not provided.

What’s in it for you?

If working for one of Scotland's leading civil engineering contractors wasn’t enough, they offer an excellent benefits package, including:

  • Company vehicle
  • Performance-related bonus scheme
  • Pension plan with employer contributions
  • Ongoing professional development support
  • Accommodation & return flights when based on Stornoway

If you're ready for a challenge and want to make a real impact, we’d love to hear from you!

*Accommodation is only provided when the project moves to site; applicants must source their own accommodation if outside Glasgow or Highland regions.

**Applicants must have the relevant right to work documentation; sponsorship is not offered.
