Job summary

Astute’s Nuclear team is partnering with a leading engineering organisation to recruit a Civil & Structural Engineer to support an established site team on an exciting nuclear new-build programme.

The role focuses on delivering structural analysis, design and assessment for reinforced concrete and steel, producing calculations, models and reports, and collaborating with civil, geotechnical, mechanical, electrical and safety teams to ensure regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• Working towards Chartered Engineer status or equivalent experience.
• Experience in analysis and design of RC, steel and civil structures.

Responsibilities

• Deliver structural analysis, design and assessment for RC, steel and civil infrastructure.
• Produce and review calculations, models, drawings and technical reports.
• Develop design substantiation and technical documentation for project/regulatory needs.
• Undertake assessments for normal, construction, environmental and extreme loading.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including civil, geotechnical, mechanical and safety.
• Support design reviews, technical assurance and engineering queries.
• Ensure compliance with codes, standards and CDM 2015.

Astute’s Nuclear team is partnering with a leading engineering organisation to recruit a Civil & Structural Engineer to support an established site team on an exciting nuclear new-build programme.

Responsibilities and duties of the Civil & Structural Engineer role

Reporting To The Relevant Engineering Lead, You Will

• Deliver structural engineering analysis, design and assessment for reinforced concrete, steel and civil infrastructure.
• Produce and review structural calculations, models, drawings, specifications and technical reports.
• Develop design substantiation and technical documentation to meet project and regulatory requirements.
• Undertake assessments for normal, construction, environmental and extreme loading conditions, including seismic loading where required.
• Work closely with civil, geotechnical, mechanical, electrical, process, construction and safety teams.
• Support design reviews, technical assurance activities and the resolution of engineering queries.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant codes, standards, quality requirements and CDM 2015.
• Support continuous improvement, knowledge sharing and mentoring of graduate and early-career engineers.

Professional Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• Working towards Chartered Engineer status, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Experience in the analysis and design of reinforced concrete, steel and civil engineering structures.
• Knowledge of relevant UK and international design codes and standards.
• Experience using structural analysis software and engineering digital tools.
• Experience within infrastructure, energy, nuclear or another regulated industry is desirable.
• Nuclear new-build experience would be advantageous.
• Knowledge or experience of American codes and standards is desirable but not essential.

Personal skills

• Strong technical understanding of structural behaviour and complex loading conditions.
• Experience producing technical reports and design substantiation.
• Able to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Confident managing technical interfaces and engaging with key stakeholders.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• A proactive approach to technical assurance and engineering delivery.
• Keen to develop knowledge and support the development of less experienced engineers.
