Job summary

ALTEN Group in Manchester is seeking a Structural Engineer to join the Nuclear sector and work on complex reinforced concrete and steel structures. The role involves design calculations, modelling to Eurocodes/ ETC-C, and ensuring safety compliance.

You will collaborate across disciplines, support construction, and ensure regulatory standards are met. BPSS clearance eligibility and 3–10 years of experience are expected for this position.

Qualifications

• Experience designing reinforced concrete structures for nuclear facilities.
• Experience in highly regulated industries and seismic/dynamic loading considerations.
• Eligibility to obtain UK security clearance (BPSS minimum).

As a Structural Engineer, you will join Manchesterteam to support our activities within theNuclearsector.

This role offers the opportunity to work on some of the most complex reinforced concrete and steel structures in the nuclear industry, collaborating within a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environment to deliver safe, resilient, and high-quality engineering solutions for our clients

• Experience Level: 3-10 YOE

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and analyse reinforced concretestructures for nuclear facilities and associated infrastructure.
• Perform structural calculations and modelling to ensure compliance with relevant design codes and safety requirements.
• Design and analyse reinforced concrete for EPR nuclear power plants in accordance with applicable codes and standards (Eurocodes, ETC-C, etc.).
• Support design changes and modifications by assessing structural impacts and recommending appropriate engineering solutions.
• Ensure structural integrity and resilience under a wide range of loading conditions, including seismic, dynamic, environmental loads and temporary construction sequences.
• Assess and manage design changes, evaluating structural impacts and proposing appropriate design modifications.
• Provide technical support during construction, including site assessments and resolution of structural issues.
• Work with construction contractors, site teams, clients, principal designers and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with nuclear safety and CDM regulations.

Required Skills:

• Strong experience in structural design of reinforced concrete.
• Proven experience within nuclear, energy or other highly regulated industries.
• Solid understanding of Eurocodes and nuclear-related design standards.

Required Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, orequivalentmilitary experience.
• Eligibility to obtain UK security clearance (BPSS as a minimum)

Desirable Skills:

• Experience working on EPR nuclear power plant projects.
• Familiarity with BIM environments and multi-disciplinary coordination.
• Previous leadership or team management experience in complex engineering projects.
