We are looking for a Chartered Structural Engineer to apply expertise to technically demanding nuclear projects that require precision, compliance and engineering excellence.

This role is designed for an experienced professional who enjoys solving complex problems and delivering high-quality structural design within a highly regulated environment.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

This role offers flexible and hybrid working arrangements, combining office collaboration with remote working depending on project requirements. You will work within multidisciplinary engineering teams based in Cumbria, with occasional travel to client sites where required.

Due to the nature of the projects involved, the role requires the ability to obtain and maintain UK security clearance, and a full UK driving licence may be required for certain site visits.

ROLE SCOPE AND PURPOSE

This role focuses on delivering technically robust structural engineering solutions within the nuclear sector. Working as part of multidisciplinary teams, you will provide specialist design, analysis and assurance across projects from early concept through to detailed design and implementation.

You will act as a technical authority within project teams, ensuring designs meet nuclear, industry and statutory standards while supporting safe and compliant project delivery.

The position is centred on hands-on engineering expertise, allowing you to concentrate on complex technical work, independent verification activities and maintaining the highest standards of quality and regulatory compliance.

Your expertise will play a critical role in enabling safe and reliable nuclear infrastructure. By delivering technically sound design and analysis, contributing to safety case development and supporting robust engineering decision‑making, you will help ensure projects meet the demanding expectations of the nuclear industry.

Your input will support multidisciplinary collaboration, strengthen technical assurance processes and contribute to the successful delivery of projects that operate within strict regulatory frameworks.

You will act as a subject‑matter specialist within project teams, maintain knowledge of evolving nuclear standards and regulatory guidance and promote engineering excellence and continuous improvement in technical practices.

Work closely with engineers, project managers and clients to resolve complex technical challenges and support informed engineering decisions across projects

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

You will hold a degree in Civil, Structural or a related engineering discipline and be a Chartered Engineer with a recognised professional institution.

You will have significant experience delivering structural engineering solutions within the nuclear sector or similarly regulated industries.

Strong technical capability in structural analysis, design assurance and regulatory compliance is essential, along with the ability to communicate complex engineering concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE
