Job summary

Malvern Hills and Wychavon District Councils are seeking two Engineering Assistants to help deliver municipal and civil projects. You’ll assist from inception to completion, using Leica surveying gear and AutoCAD to design and tender work and to oversee delivery on site.

Qualifications

• Experience in a design office or technical environment, or relevant site experience.
• Experience interpreting technical and topographical survey drawings.
• A BTEC Higher National Certificate in Civil Engineering or similar is essential for Grade 7 and desirable for Grade 6.
• GCSEs in Maths and English, or equivalent qualifications, knowledge and experience.
• Willingness to undertake training in surveying equipment, AutoCAD and 4x4 driving.
• The ability to contribute to projects being delivered on time and within budget, with effective negotiation skills.
• A flexible, adaptable approach, a strong team-working ethic and respect for others, including the ability to handle disagreements constructively.

Responsibilities

• Prepare tender documents, bills of quantities and contract documentation for medium-value projects up to £100,000, and support documentation for higher-value contracts.
• Help supervise construction contracts, including valuations, final measurements and accounts.
• Prepare technical reports and feasibility studies, and provide technical advice to Council colleagues.
• Work with AutoCAD and surveying technology, and support the maintenance, updating and calibration of technical equipment.
• Work with colleagues, contractors and external clients or designers to help deliver projects on time and within budget.
