Job summary

WSP Cambridge is looking for a driven engineering professional to support development projects across sectors, delivering highway and drainage design, masterplans, reports and construction drawings. You will work within a Cambridge team to develop technical capabilities and progress toward Chartership.

The role offers hybrid working with two days from home and access to WSP’s Thrive wellbeing and flexible benefits.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of highway design, drainage strategy and design, flood risk assessment and management, utility design and planning.
• An appreciation of hydraulics, hydrology, geotechnics and building structures; understanding of design stages and procedures.
• Ability to produce infrastructure masterplans, site appraisals, technical reports, design calculations and construction drawings with supervision.
• Familiarity with design codes: Water UK Sewerage Sector Guidance, Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, Local Authority Design Guidance; capable of drawing contract docs for approvals.
• Strong written and spoken communication; awareness of climate change and sustainability guidance.
• Proficient in software: Info Drainage, Micro Drainage, AutoCAD, Civil 3D and/or PDS.
• Experience liaising with clients and authorities to secure outlines and detailed approvals and agreements.
• Understanding of legal processes for sewer, SuDS, highways and utilities provision to developments and regeneration.
• Knowledge of financial and contractual aspects of planning, bidding, and delivering projects.
• Postgraduate or equivalent experience; working toward Chartership.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to concept studies/strategies/drawing packages for planning applications and approvals.
• Contribute to Development projects across sectors and clients.
• Be active on several varied projects at a time.
• Be supported by Cambridge team to develop technical capabilities and career progression.
• Engage with clients and manage stakeholders; liaise with design teams internally and externally.
• Ensure tasks are delivered to budget, programme, technical standards and legal requirements.
