Job summary

NRL is seeking Civil General Operatives to support a major steel project. The temporary role targets individuals with civil engineering, groundworks or utilities background to help deliver safe, efficient operations on site.

Salary is paid via PAYE or Umbrella, with overtime rates and a start ASAP for 3–4 months. Hours are long (10–12 per day) and site safety, PPE and HSE compliance are essential for daily tasks.

Qualifications

• CSCS or CCNSG card required.
• Experience in civil engineering, groundworks, utilities, or general construction.
• Ability to work as part of a team and follow site instructions.

Responsibilities

• Prepare work areas, clear debris, and assist with temporary works.
• Safely handle and store materials through manual handling or basic plant.
• Assist civil trades such as groundworkers, steel fixers and machine operators.
• Perform labouring tasks including digging, backfilling, and compacting.
• Follow HSE regulations, maintain PPE use, report hazards and uphold site safety.
• Operate small tools (such as wackers, saws, breakers) if trained, ensuring tools remain in good condition.
• Maintain tidy working areas and clear access routes.
• Carry out instructions from supervisors to ensure efficient workflow.

Job Title: Civil General Operatives

We are seeking experienced Civil General Operatives to support a major project at Steel. This temporary role is ideal for those with a strong background in civil engineering, groundworks or utilities who want to play a key part in delivering safe and efficient operations.

Salary: PAYE Basic Rate: £16.85 per hour (+ £2.37 holiday pay = £19.22); Umbrella Rate: £22.68 per hour. Overtime Rates: OT x1.4: £26.90 PAYE Total / £31.74 Umbrella; OT x1.8: £34.59 PAYE Total / £40.82 Umbrella.

Location and Working Pattern: Site: Industrial. Duration: 3-4 months. Start Date: ASAP. Hours: 10-12 hours per day.
