Job summary

Nicholas Associates is seeking a proactive Estimator for civil engineering projects based in the North East. The role focuses on tendering, cost estimation, and risk management within drainage, civils and utilities work for AMP 8 schemes.

You will review drawings and specs, compile BOQs, and coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive tenders. A degree in QS/CM/CE and strong numeric skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or Civil Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience in estimating within the civil engineering, utilities sector.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and pricing.
• Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

• Review projects and take control of the tendering process.
• Evaluate risk and protect the business when submitting tenders.
• Prepare competitive tenders and detailed cost estimates.
• Review engineering drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
• Help compile bills of quantities and material take-offs.
• Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotations.
• Attend pre-tender and post-tender meetings as required.
• Learn to identify and evaluate commercial risks and opportunities in civil/groundworks packages.
