Job summary

Nicholas Associates is seeking a proactive Estimator for civil engineering and groundworks projects based in the North East. The role focuses on tendering, cost estimation and commercial risk assessment to support high-quality delivery for utility and drainage schemes.

Applicants should have a degree in QS/Commerce or Civil Engineering with proven estimating experience in civil engineering. Strong numerical, analytical and negotiation skills are essential, along with proficiency in estimating

Qualifications

• Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or Civil Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience in estimating within civil engineering, utilities sector.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, materials and pricing.
• Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

• Review projects and take control of the tendering process.
• Evaluate risk and protect the business when submitting tenders.
• Prepare competitive tenders and detailed cost estimates.
• Review engineering drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
• Help compile bills of quantities and material take-offs; liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotations.
• Attend pre-tender and post-tender meetings as required.
• Learn to identify and evaluate commercial risks and opportunities in civil/groundworks packages.

Our client is a well-established civil engineering contractor, specialising in drainage, civils and utilities, working under AMP 8 for main contractors. They are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Estimator to join their team based in the North East.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled professional with a strong background in estimating within the groundworks industry to contribute to a reputable contractor known for delivering high-quality projects.

Key Responsibilities
