Job summary

Bennett and Game Recruitment LTD are representing an established multidisciplinary consultancy seeking an experienced Civil Engineering Lead to join their Bedford team. This role blends technical leadership, project delivery, client management and business development.

The successful candidate will lead projects across residential, commercial, education, healthcare, industrial and public sectors, gaining autonomy with a clear progression path toward senior leadership.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Chartered Engineer status (CEng MICE or equivalent) highly desirable.
• Strong background within a UK civil engineering or multidisciplinary consultancy.
• Extensive technical experience in highways, drainage, SuDS, flood risk and infrastructure design.
• Experience preparing and reviewing Section 38, Section 278 and Section 104 submissions advantageous.
• Proven ability to manage projects, coordinate technical teams and deliver engineering solutions.
• Experience liaising with local authorities, statutory bodies, developers and other stakeholders.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D or similar civil engineering design software.
• Commercial awareness, including project budgets, fee proposals and resource planning.
• Previous experience mentoring or managing Engineers and Technicians.
• Excellent communication, organisational and client-facing skills.
• Ambition to contribute to the growth and development of a civil engineering team.

Responsibilities

• Lead civil engineering projects from initial feasibility and planning through to detailed design, construction and completion.
• Oversee highways, drainage, SuDS, flood risk assessments, external works and infrastructure design.
• Provide technical leadership, reviewing engineering calculations, drawings, specifications and reports.
• Manage project programmes, budgets, fees, resources and quality assurance.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, planning authorities, highway authorities, water companies and the Environment Agency.
• Prepare and review technical submissions for planning permission and statutory approvals.
• Work closely with Directors to support business development, fee proposals, tenders and client relationships.
• Mentor and support Civil Engineers and Technicians, contributing to the development of the wider team.
• Ensure effective use of civil engineering design software and maintain high technical standards.
• Identify project risks, constraints and opportunities, providing practical and commercially viable engineering solutions.
