Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Civil Engineer to join our Buildings team in Birmingham. You will deliver civil engineering designs for a range of building developments and work within an integrated, multidisciplinary team.

You’ll develop schemes from feasibility to detailed design, coordinate with structural, MEP, planning and environmental colleagues, and apply CDM 2015 principles to manage risks. A UK design standards knowledge and proficiency in Civil 3D/InfoDrainage/AutoCAD are essential.

Qualifications

• A degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience delivering civil engineering design in a consultancy.
• Experience on building developments across sectors such as commercial, residential, education, healthcare, industrial or mixed-use.
• Knowledge of highways, drainage, external works and utility infrastructure design.
• Experience using Civil 3D, InfoDrainage, Causeway Flow, AutoCAD or equivalent.
• A good understanding of UK design standards, approval processes and relevant legislation.
• An appreciation of SuDS, flood risk and climate resilience principles.
• Knowledge of CDM 2015 and the management of design risk.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
• The ability to manage competing priorities and contribute to successful project delivery.
• Working towards, or already holding, Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status with ICE or another professional institution.

Responsibilities

• Deliver civil engineering designs for a wide variety of building developments.
• Design highways, access roads, levels strategies, external works and utility infrastructure.
• Prepare surface water and foul water drainage strategies using SuDS principles.
• Produce engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications and design drawings.
• Use Civil 3D, InfoDrainage, Causeway Flow and AutoCAD to develop innovative engineering solutions.
• Support Flood Risk Assessments and drainage strategies where required.
• Liaising with local authorities, statutory undertakers, approval bodies and external stakeholders throughout project delivery.
• Coordinating designs with structural, MEP, geotechnical, environmental and planning teams to ensure fully integrated project solutions.
• Applying CDM 2015 principles by identifying, managing and communicating design risks throughout the project lifecycle.
• Attending client meetings, design reviews and site visits while building relationships with clients and project partners.
• Supporting the successful delivery of projects to programme, budget and quality expectations.
• Contributing to mentoring and knowledge sharing across the wider Civil Engineering team.
