JOB OVERVIEW

BG&E is recruiting an engineer to join our Civil Engineering Team in the London office.

You will contribute to projects in various sectors (infrastructure, industrial, property) at different stages (concept design, detailed design, and construction). Current projects include HS2, Data Centres in Europe and the UK, and battery energy storage systems (BESS).

We seek an individual with strong technical skills, proficiency in design software, and excellent organizational and communication skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Civil Engineer, you will work within project teams to deliver effective and professional services. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Understanding project requirements and scope of work
  2. Understanding applicable engineering standards
  3. Contributing to technical design information, including calculations, specifications, and reports
  4. Supporting the production of 3D models and CAD drawings
  5. Applying technical design best practices
  6. Ensuring design outputs include appropriate risk assessments
  7. Maintaining accuracy and quality in design deliverables
  8. Collaborating with multi-disciplinary engineering teams
  9. Supporting construction through site visits and resolving technical issues with site staff
  10. Assisting in project administration
  11. Adhering to BG&E policies
  12. Keeping training logs current and attending CPD events as appropriate

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in civil engineering project delivery (earthworks, roads, drainage, flooding)
  • Knowledge of Civil 3D for infrastructure modeling
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD for construction drawings
  • Familiarity with MS Office (Word, Excel)
  • Understanding of relevant standards and codes (e.g., SuDS Manual, Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, Manual for Streets)
  • Accuracy, flexibility, and ability to work across disciplines
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and budgets
  • Effective communication skills in English
  • Understanding of CDM Regulations

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of Section 104, 106, 38, and 278 Agreements
  • Experience obtaining regulatory approvals
  • Experience with Navisworks for model coordination
  • Proficiency in MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage software
  • Experience with Autodesk InfraWorks and Vehicle Tracking
  • Knowledge of highway design software
  • Understanding of BIM processes

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • Graduate member of ICE or similar
  • Working towards CEng or IEng registration
  • Qualifications in CAD/Design software
