Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Derby is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer to develop high-quality designs for railway and related projects. You will work with national and international design teams, producing sketches, drawings, 3D BIM deliverables, and calculations while mentoring junior staff.

The role emphasizes collaboration across disciplines, qualification progress toward chartership, and engagement on bids. Flexible and hybrid working arrangements are available, with potential UK security clearance

Qualifications

  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or related discipline.
  • Near Chartered/Chartered status and ICE or IStructE membership.
  • Experience on projects with key clients such as Network Rail, National Highways or local authorities as well as major Contractors and Developers.
  • Good understanding of relevant design standards (e.g. Eurocodes, DMRB, MCHW and Network Rail standards).
  • Practical knowledge and experience of delivering Railway Civil Engineering and Stations projects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to converse with a wide range of clients, stakeholders and colleagues across a number of engineering disciplines.

Your role

Take pride in developing high-quality civil and structural designs for new construction, renewals, maintenance, and assessments. The core of our work in our Derby office is railway civil engineering projects but we enjoy working across sectors. Collaborate with both national and international design teams, utilizing your experience to create positive, sustainable impacts on society and the environment. Use analytical skills to derive potential solutions to engineering problems and engineering judgement to appraise different options and recommend the most suitable option. Undertake technical work independently, including the production of high quality design documentation including sketches, drawings, 3D BIM deliverables, analysis models, calculations, reports and specifications. Provide guidance and support for more junior members of staff. Support on bids, tenders and winning work. Sound interpersonal skills and ability to converse with a wide range of colleagues across a number of engineering disciplines.

About you
