Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a senior civil/railway engineer to lead design teams and oversee the production of high-quality design documentation for Derby projects. You will guide junior staff, manage scopes, budgets and schedules, and participate in bids to win work.

The role requires CRE/Deputy CRE experience, strong knowledge of Eurocodes and Network Rail standards, and the ability to liaise with clients and stakeholders across disciplines.

Qualifications

• Must hold a degree in civil or structural engineering and a recognised professional qualification (CEng/IEng).
• Experience as CRE/Deputy CRE/Workpackage Manager for railway civil engineering works or stations projects.
• Proven ability to manage stakeholder relationships with Network Rail, HS2, authorities or major contractors.
• Strong understanding of Eurocodes, DMRB, MCHW and Network Rail standards.

Your role

Take pride in developing high-quality civil and structural designs for new constructions, renewals, maintenance and assessments. The core of our work in Derby is on railway civil engineering projects, but we enjoy working across sectors. Collaborate with both national and international design teams, using your expertise and leadership to create positive, sustainable impacts on society and the environment. Manage the production and review of high-quality design documentation, including sketches, drawings, calculations, reports and specifications. Independently carry out technical work and provide guidance to junior staff members. Lead teams in the design, assessment and maintenance of structural or railway civil engineering projects, and providing civils/structures related input on multi-disciplinary projects. Develop and agree scopes and manage the internal technical supply chain, including budgets, programme and quality of deliverables. Use analytical skills to derive potential solutions to engineering problems and engineering judgement to appraise different options and recommend the most suitable option. Lead bids and tenders, winning work and developing Client relationships.

About you

A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or a related discipline. A professional qualification (CEng/IEng) and membership of the ICE or IStructE. Experience of acting as a CRE/ Deputy CRE/ Workpackage Manager or Deputy Engineering Manager for railway civil engineering works or stations projects. Experience working with key clients such as Network Rail, HS2, local authorities or major Contractors and Developers. Good understanding of relevant design standards (e.g. Eurocodes, DMRB, MCHW and Network Rail standards). Practical knowledge of railway civil engeineering or station design. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to converse with a wide range of clients, stakeholders and colleagues across a number of engineering disciplines. Good project management skills, commercial awareness, financial control and ability to deliver across a range of contract types. This will include an ability to manage stakeholders, e.g. specialist suppliers, independent checkers and local authorities.
