SIMIAN is recruiting a CISRS Scaffolding Instructor/Assessor/Skills Coach for its SOMAX centre in Weston-super-Mare. The role focuses on coaching apprentices, delivering assessments and sharing expertise to help trainee scaffolders progress across our sites.

You must hold CISRS Advanced Scaffolder and Scaffolder qualifications with long-standing experience. Willingness to travel to other SIMIAN centres and work away from home is required during the development phase.

We are seeking to add to our team of CISRS Instructors at our SOMAX centre in Weston-super-Mare, in conjunction with our partners, Weston College, and we are looking to recruit Scaffolders/existing CISRS Instructors who wish to progress their careers and share their skills and experience with others progressing in the industry. As a provider rated as ‘GOOD’ by Ofsted, we are offering an excellent package that includes target earnings of £48k p/a, 30 days annual leave, a five-day week and a stakeholder pension. Additional pay is available to those willing to work away from home in our other CISRS centres.

Full training and mentoring will be provided for those that require it, and development will be in accordance with our Instructor development plan, which aims to return fully qualified CISRS Instructors within one year of commencing employment. In order to achieve development within one year, shadowing may be required to take place in our other CISRS centres. Candidates should be willing to travel to achieve this.

The first 6‑12 months of development will be centred on learning about the apprentice journey and the processes involved, and this will require you to use your scaffolding experience to coach, mentor, encourage and develop apprentice scaffolders by carrying out periodic reviews of their progress. This work will be both centre and site-based.

Candidates must be based within a commutable distance of our Weston centre, as accommodation and travel allowance is not available for this role. However, travel to other SIMIAN centres (and overnight stays away from home – initially in week‑long blocks) will be required for those in development, so a willingness to travel is essential.
