Job summary

Peterborough Diocesan Board of Finance invites applications for a Church & Community Engagement Officer. The post sits with the Diocesan Advisory Committee for the Care of Churches to promote inclusive, community-focused use of church buildings.

You will build partnerships, identify funding sources, and help maximise revenue while ensuring safeguarding and compliance across the diocese. The role is full-time, grant-funded for three years, with hybrid working and 35 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Ability to build relationships with volunteers and stakeholders.
• Experience delivering community-led projects and fundraising.
• Capacity to develop and implement strategic plans and drive income.
• Experience in data collection and analysis.
• Knowledge of heritage interpretation is desirable.
• Proficient IT skills and accurate record-keeping.
• Willingness to travel across the diocese and irregular hours.
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.
• DBS disclosure & Barring Service clearance.

Responsibilities

• Build relationships with local authorities, businesses, charities and partners.
• Promote church buildings as community resources and develop revenue projects.
• Help PCCs identify revenue and funding sources.
• Assist with grant funding processes and planning applications.
• Identify community needs and coordinate with the Churches Support Officer.
• Develop strategies for conserving historic places of worship and community use.
• Create volunteering opportunities and establish support networks.
• Develop mentoring and training schemes for volunteers.
• Create a replicable framework for sustainable community development.
• Receive internal training and participate in CPD opportunities.
