Job summary

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Specialist Safeguarding Nurse or Midwife to join our Safeguarding team. You will support the Named Nurse and Named Midwife for Safeguarding Children to fulfil MSEFT responsibilities and provide expert advice on safeguarding children and unborn babies.

This part-time 3-day-per-week role allows you to drive safer care across the Trust, managing complex cases, auditing practice, and delivering safeguarding training across services.

Qualifications

• Registered on part 1, 2, 7, 8, 10, 11 or 15 of the NMC register.
• Relevant safeguarding supervision training.
• Recognised teaching qualification or experience of delivering training.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist safeguarding guidance to all staff and multi-agency partners.
• Support operational management of complex child protection cases as they arise.
• Maintain records and statistics of child protection cases for quarterly reporting.
• Elevate risks or concerns to the Named Nurse/Midwife for Safeguarding Children.
• Support staff in implementing safeguarding guidance and legislation at local levels.
• Assist in monitoring and auditing safeguarding guidance implementation.
• Support staff in applying mental capacity guidance for 16–17 year olds.
• Plan and deliver Safeguarding Children training across the Trust.
• Maintain safeguarding records in line with NMC guidance.
