Bring Your Support Experience Into Education If you've supported children or young people in care, residential settings, children's services, community support or similar environments, your experience could be incredibly valuable in a school.
Thrive Education Group is looking for Children's Support Workers to work within welcoming education settings across Liverpool, with opportunities available for an immediate start.
You'll support children and young people who may need additional help with their learning, communication, emotional regulation, behaviour or independence.
For someone coming from a care or support background, this is an opportunity to use the skills you already have while developing valuable experience within education and SEND. Many of the skills developed in children's support work transfer naturally into schools.
You may already know how to build trust with a young person who is reluctant to engage.
You may have supported children through difficult emotions, challenging behaviour or periods of anxiety.
You may understand the importance of routines, boundaries, consistency and recognising what a young person is trying to communicate through their behaviour.
Those skills can make an enormous difference to a child who finds education difficult.
You’ll work alongside teachers, SEND professionals and pastoral teams to provide consistent support throughout the school day.
Depending on the setting, you could work with pupils with needs including: Autism (ASC)
Others may need help during particular lessons, transitions or situations they find challenging.
The aim is not simply to manage behaviour.
It's to understand the individual child, identify what helps them feel safe and supported, and gradually help them develop the skills and confidence to become more independent.
Every child is different, so every day can look different too.
You might begin the morning helping a pupil settle into school, support them during classroom learning, work through an individual activity and later help them regulate following a difficult transition.
Your responsibilities could include:
Providing one-to-one support for individual pupils.
Supporting children within lessons and small-group activities.
Helping pupils access learning at an appropriate level.
Building positive, trusting professional relationships.
Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
Recognising potential triggers and responding appropriately.
Helping children manage changes and transitions.
Using visual routines and communication strategies where appropriate.
Encouraging positive social interaction.
Supporting pupils with personal development and independence.
Reinforcing clear and consistent boundaries.
Helping pupils develop confidence and resilience.
Supporting individual plans and agreed strategies.
Sharing observations with teachers and support professionals.
Working collaboratively with SEND, pastoral and safeguarding teams.
Supporting pupils during breaktimes and other parts of the school day where required.
You don't necessarily need previous classroom experience.
We're particularly interested in people who have supported children or young people within: Residential Care
You'll need to be someone who can remain calm when things become challenging.
A child who refuses an activity, becomes frustrated or withdraws from learning may be communicating something they cannot easily explain.
You'll need the patience to look beyond the immediate behaviour and help them move forward.
We're looking for people who:
Have experience supporting children or young people.
Can build trust while maintaining professional boundaries.
Are patient, dependable and emotionally resilient.
Understand the importance of consistency and routine.
Can respond calmly to challenging situations.
Are comfortable following individual support strategies.
Can work effectively with teachers and other professionals.
Are willing to adapt their approach around individual needs.
Want to learn more about SEND and education.
Are committed to safeguarding and children's wellbeing.
An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one, will be required.
Moving into education doesn't mean starting again.
The skills you've already developed supporting children can provide an excellent foundation for a career within schools.
You'll have the opportunity to build experience in areas such as: SEND
Thrive Education Group understands that some of the strongest candidates for school support roles come from outside traditional education backgrounds.
We'll help you transfer your existing experience into a school environment and continue developing your skills.
You'll benefit from: - £95-£105 per day.
ASAP start.
Full-time, term-time only opportunities.
Long-term and potential permanent positions.
Opportunities to gain specialist SEND experience.
Ongoing training and professional development.
Support from a dedicated education consultant.
Valuable experience for future career progression.
For some children, having one consistent adult who remains calm, listens and doesn't give up on them can change their experience of education.
You could be that person.
And while you're helping a young person develop their confidence, independence and ability to engage with school, you'll be developing valuable experience for your own future too.
