An exciting opportunity is available for a Children’s Senior Social Worker to join a dedicated Families and Safeguarding Team. This role is suited to an experienced, qualified social work professional who is committed to improving outcomes for children, young people and their families through effective, strengths-based practice.
You will manage a varied and complex caseload involving children who may be at risk of harm, in need of protection or requiring support to achieve positive change. Your responsibilities will include completing assessments, developing and reviewing care and protection plans, undertaking statutory visits, preparing reports and presenting information at relevant meetings and hearings. You will work closely with children and families to understand their experiences, identify strengths and agree practical, achievable plans.
Working collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies, you will contribute to safeguarding enquiries, care planning and decision-making. You will build effective relationships with education, health, police, legal and community services, ensuring that information is shared appropriately and that children’s voices remain central. The role also includes maintaining accurate records, meeting statutory timescales and working in accordance with legislation, professional standards and local procedures.
As a senior member of the team, you will provide advice and support to colleagues, contribute to reflective practice and help promote continuous improvement. You may also support the development of students and newly qualified social workers, depending on experience and service requirements.
You must hold a recognised Social Work qualification and current registration with Social Care Wales. Substantial experience of children’s social care, safeguarding and working within statutory frameworks is essential, together with a sound understanding of relevant legislation and evidence-based practice. You will need strong assessment, communication, analytical and report-writing skills, alongside the ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure. A valid driving licence and access to suitable transport may be required.
