Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Childrens Residential Support Worker (Waking Night) to join our in-house team in Southwark. You will be part of a committed service providing overnight care and support to children and young people with emotional, behavioural, and complex needs, including learning disabilities.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children who may require emergency placements or are experiencing a crisis. You will provide a nurturing, person-centred environment that promotes independence, dignity, and well-being.

Pay - £20 per hour

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, person-centred care in line with individual support plans.
  • Ensure a safe and nurturing environment that supports the emotional and physical well-being of children and young people.
  • Carry out domestic duties during the night, including light cleaning, food preparation, and general household tasks.
  • Safely store, administer, and record medication in accordance with the service's medication policy.
  • Support with personal care, behaviour management, and crisis interventions when necessary.
  • Maintain up-to-date records, including care plans, daily logs, and handover notes.
  • Assist with planning and implementing tailored activities, goals, and support strategies.
  • Attend external settings when required (e.g., hospital, police station).
  • Participate in regular supervisions, training, and development activities.
  • Adhere to health and safety procedures and safeguarding policies at all times.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of individual care plans tailored to each child's needs.
  • Communicate effectively with children, families, and other professionals to ensure a collaborative approach to care.
  • Drive to various locations as required for activities or appointments, ensuring safe transportation.
  • Maintain accurate records of progress and any incidents that may occur during support sessions.
  • Engage children in activities that promote learning and development, fostering a positive atmosphere.
  • Monitor the well-being of children, addressing any concerns promptly and appropriately.

Experience

  • Has previous experience working with children or young people in a residential or care setting (desirable).
  • Demonstrates empathy, patience, and resilience in challenging situations.
  • Has a good understanding of safeguarding, health and safety, and child development.
  • Is a strong team player with excellent communication and record-keeping skills.
  • Is committed to delivering high standards of care in line with Southwarks values and regulatory requirements.
  • Is flexible and willing to work waking night shifts on a rota basis.
  • Previous experience working with children in a childcare or support role is essential.
  • Familiarity with IT systems for record-keeping and communication purposes is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills are crucial for interacting with children, families, and colleagues effectively.
  • Experience in developing or implementing care plans will be beneficial for this role.
