Dwelling Places Homes is a Children's Residential and Supported Accommodation provider guided by our values and the quality of our service. We provide a unique combination of personalised care, support and housing solutions for Young people 16+ and 18+ Care Leavers. We are looking for motivated, passionate, reliable and friendly individuals to join our growing team to deliver and support our young people and care leavers aged 16+ years old in a 24/7 Staffed Supported Accommodation home in South East London. Dwelling Places Homes is a long-standing family-run organisation dedicated to providing quality person-centered care to young people and care leavers aged 16 - 18 years old in Supported Accommodation homes. As a Support Worker, you will promote independence, encourage and support service users in their day-to-day lives, enabling them to live more fulfilling lives, whilst helping provide high-quality person-centered care. This could include a range of tasks and activities such as personal care, domestic tasks and general activities that allow the individual to live their lives in the way they choose.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage young people living semi-independently in the community; structure daily routines consistent with an independent placement agreement.
- Monitor the young person's ability to engage with everyday living and develop skills where necessary by supporting their identified needs.
- Support the young person in settling within the community and accessing local resources.
- Encourage and support the young person in accessing education, training or employment and assist with application processes.
- Support and assist with budgeting, grocery shopping, and administer weekly subsistence allowances.
- Encourage engagement in positive community activities, building relationships and social networks.
- Handle administrative work and record keeping related to key working responsibilities and daily home operations.
- Maintain petty cash and receipts for expenditures.
- Ensure the cleanliness and hygiene of the accommodation, leading by example and encouraging young people to do the same.
- Work with your line manager and the young person to develop support plans focused on building confidence and self-esteem.
- Promote safe, consistent boundaries with the young person in line with a 'Young Person’s Agreement'.
- Support the young person in participating actively in the community and maintaining social connections.
- Prepare monthly progress reports on the young person's development for submission to the placing authority.
- Complete necessary paperwork, administration, and key work sessions as directed.
- Collaborate with other agencies, support young people attending meetings with professionals, and participate in reviews and planning meetings.
- Conduct weekly health and safety checks within the accommodation; report repairs or damages to ensure high standards.
- Maintain confidentiality and report any welfare concerns to your line manager.
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
- Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns and report them effectively.
Personal Qualities and Qualifications:
- Act as a role model and guide for young people, setting principles and examples.
- Utilize regular professional supervision.
- Report malpractice or concerns appropriately.
- Possess empathy, a proactive attitude, good communication skills, and responsiveness to criticism.
- Hold a Full Enhanced DBS check.
- Minimum 2 years' experience working with children/young people or a teaching/teaching assistance background.
- NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care, Level 2 Diploma in Residential Child Care, or willingness to work towards it, or alternative qualifications.
- Willing to travel across South London and surrounding areas.
- Previous experience as a key worker preferred.
- Formal qualification in Teaching, Teaching Assistance, or Facilitation is desirable.
- Interest or experience in working with SEND children and young people.
Work Conditions:
- Ability to work independently with young people.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, bank holidays, and holidays as needed.
- Flexibility to work additional hours for cover.
- Good medical health necessary.
Job Details:
- Type: Zero hours contract with potential for fixed hours.
- Pay: From £11.44 per hour.
