Job summary

Steps Ahead Semi Independent Living Ltd. is seeking dedicated care staff to support children and young people in a home setting. The role focuses on implementing care plans, safeguarding, and promoting a stable, healthy environment that respects each young person’s health, culture and identity.

You will work as a key worker, liaise with families and professionals, contribute to placement plans, and participate in meetings, training and rotating duties to ensure consistent, compassionate care.

Qualifications

  • Must be part of a professional team caring for children and young people.
  • Experience in developing and following Care Plans and supporting placement plans.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and promoting welfare of young people.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide key worker support to children and young people and complete responsibilities.
  • Maintain daily routines and a positive culture of care.
  • Liaise with external agencies to aid young people's welfare.
  • Document care plans and records as directed by management.
  • Attend meetings and participate in training and duty rosters.

Job description

Key Responsibilities
  • To be a member of a team of professional staff caring for children and young people. To implement and contribute to the development of Care Plans for young people in the home.
  • Liaison with external agencies to assist and enhance the care of the young people.
  • To safeguard and promote the welfare of all children and young people.
  • To contribute to the provision of a secure, stable, supportive, family environment for young people which respects and promotes their health, culture, religion, race, identity and lifestyle.
  • To follow policies and procedures and ensure a safe, secure and healthy environment at all times.
  • To act as a role model for young people
Principal Accountabilities:
  • To work as a key worker to children and young people ensuring all key worker responsibilities are completed.
  • To participate in domestic duties as can be reasonably expected.
  • To maintain daily routines within the home which provides a framework for development of a positive culture of care.
  • Establishing and maintaining positive, caring relationships with children, young people, their families and other professionals.
  • Provide advice and support to children and young people regarding their social, physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
  • Encouraging and assisting children and young people to develop their independence skills.
  • To create, maintain and review appropriate case records and plans as directed by the Registered Manager.
  • To develop a sound knowledge of Children’s Homes Regulations and provide services and support, both individually and/or in groups to facilitate implementation of Placement Plans, which are based around these (additional training and support provided)
  • Plan and participate in various internal and external social and leisure activities.
  • Participate in writing care plans, guidelines and reports for the children and young people as requested by the Registered Manager.
  • To attend internal and external meetings as requested by the Registered Manager.
  • To take full part in duty rotas including weekends, sleep-ins and waking nights.
  • Draw the attention of the Manager/Team Leader on duty to any areas of concern.
  • To complete all on-line and mandatory training.
Pay:

£15.00 per hour

Schedule:
  • Overtime
  • Monday-Friday
Ability to commute/relocate:
  • Bromley: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
Experience:
  • Residential Childcare: 1 year (preferred)
  • Support Environment: 1 year (preferred)
Licence/Certification:
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (preferred)
