Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated Children’s Support Worker to join a supported living setting for 16-18-year-olds in Bournemouth. You will help develop independent living skills and emotional wellbeing, with a three-week rolling rota including sleep-in shifts.

Responsibilities include daily living support (cooking, budgeting, shopping), escorting to activities and appointments, and assisting with job searches and CV writing while building positive relationships and upholding

Qualifications

  • Have at least 6 months experience working with children or young people.
  • Be patient, empathetic, and resilient.
  • Can build positive relationships and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Have a genuine passion for supporting young people to achieve independence.
  • Are confident supporting individuals with social, emotional, and mental health needs.
  • Possess strong communication and teamwork skills.

Children’s Support Worker

Supported Living | 16-18-Year-Olds | Full-Time Permanent Position

Are you passionate about helping young people build confidence, develop life skills, and prepare for independent adulthood?

We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Children’s Support Workers to join a supported living setting for young people aged 16-18. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people who have experienced trauma and may face social, emotional, and mental health challenges.

About the Setting

This supported living provision provides a safe, nurturing environment where young people can develop the skills and confidence needed to live independently. The young people are encouraged to take ownership of their daily lives, with support tailored to their individual needs.

Please note:

  • The young people are largely independent and no personal care is required.
  • Additional needs are primarily linked to trauma, emotional wellbeing, and mental health.
  • Some young people require very little support, whilst others benefit from more regular guidance and encouragement.
The Role

As a Children’s Support Worker, you will play a key role in helping young people develop the practical and emotional skills needed for adult life.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting young people with day-to-day independent living skills, including cooking, shopping, budgeting, and household tasks.
  • Encouraging independence whilst providing appropriate levels of support.
  • Accompanying young people to activities and appointments.
  • Supporting with job searches, applications, interview preparation, and CV writing.

Working Hours

This role operates on a three-week rolling rota with long-day sleep-in shifts.

Shift Pattern:

  • 9:00am - 9:30am
  • Working hours: 9:00am - 11:00pm
  • Sleep-in: 11:00pm - 7:00am
  • Working hours: 7:00am - 9:30am

Please note that although this is a sleep-in shift, you may be required to provide support during the night if a young person needs assistance. Any time spent supporting young people overnight will be paid.

Example Three-Week Rota
  • Week 1: Wednesday, Saturday
  • Week 2: Monday, Friday, Sunday
  • Week 3: Tuesday, Thursday
