Job description

The job itself
The East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Children’s Services, has been rated GOOD by Ofsted following our ILACS inspection. Since 2019, the leadership team has made significant improvements in practice and leadership, engaging extensively with external partners. These improvements ensure that children and young people in East Riding receive timely and effective responses and interventions. Senior leaders and councillors are aware of their strengths and areas for improvement, with an accurate self-evaluation. They have ambitious plans and have secured significant investment to further develop their services as part of a continuous improvement journey. Senior leaders lead by example, supporting practitioners to embed a relational model of practice with families.
A great and exciting opportunity has arisen within the Participation, Innovation, and Improvement service for an experienced social worker/manager to join as Children’s Child Protection Reviewing Officer (CPRO). The role involves ensuring the needs of children and young people subject to child protection plans are safeguarded and protected.
This position offers the chance to contribute to ongoing development work to strengthen the service. Our child protection conference service is busy, and the role provides opportunities for personal and professional growth. You will help set the standard in developing practice systems to achieve the best outcomes for children, young people, and their networks.
The post offers invaluable experience in supporting and challenging social work practice, holding partner agencies to account, and shaping the child protection conference service over the next twelve months. These posts are part of a wider commitment by the Children, Families and Schools Directorate to support impactful practice and outcomes for children and families, building a sustainable foundation for the workforce. This is a great opportunity to be part of an aspirational, forward-thinking portfolio prioritizing support for children, young people, and families at risk of significant harm.
The office base for this role is County Hall, Beverley, with work across the East Riding of Yorkshire. Hybrid working arrangements apply, with working days Monday to Friday.
Benefits of being a social worker in East Riding of Yorkshire include:
  • Reimbursement of Social Work England fees.
  • Excellent training, learning, and development opportunities.
  • Regular reflective supervision focusing on wellbeing and development.
  • Flexible working options, including a nine-day fortnight.
  • Strong management support at all levels.
  • A commitment to celebrating best practice and strengths.
  • A commitment to promoting social work wellbeing and support.
Our model
‘You can, I can, We can’
We have created a bespoke practice model reflecting our vision, values, and behaviors as part of the East Riding of Yorkshire approach to working with children, young people, and families. This model is nurtured and owned by our workforce.
While committed to Signs of Safety as a framework, our model integrates it within a broader, values-based approach that emphasizes relationship-building with children, families, and communities. A well-embedded model ensures consistency in values, beliefs, and practices across teams, creating a common language and understanding of how to achieve the best outcomes for children and families.
The right candidate
You will contribute to the Quality of Practice agenda, helping to embed a culture of high-quality, impact-focused outcomes for children, young people, and families in East Riding of Yorkshire.
You will work with service leads, managers, and practitioners to drive up practice standards, demonstrating good front-line practice and the ability to identify what good practice looks like.
You will have advanced knowledge of childcare legislation, strength-based and relational approaches, and restorative practices.
You should have excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and the ability to critically evaluate children and young people’s lived experiences to ensure targeted, outcome-focused support.
We seek creative social workers with extensive experience working with children and families, demonstrating tenacity and motivation to make a positive difference. As a small team, building positive relationships is valued. You must work effectively with others, demonstrating flexibility and an adaptable, relational approach.
You will be motivated, able to work independently, and skilled in managing timescales and conflicting priorities.
If you hold these qualities, share our values, and are an innovative leader, then apply now and make a difference.

The role requires travel between work bases in Beverley, Anlaby, Goole, and Bridlington.
