Job description

North Yorkshire Council Social Worker Opportunities

North Yorkshire Council has a national reputation for excellence, recently being rated as consistently Outstanding in their OFSTED inspection within Children’s Services.

We are seeking Social Workers to join our Looked After Children Team. We also welcome applicants considering relocation.

About the Role

Our team works with children and young people who are 'Looked After' by the Local Authority or supported under a Child in Need basis, including those involved in court proceedings that have concluded. The team also handles court proceedings, taking cases from the Family Assessment and Support Team (FAST) from the second court hearing. A good understanding of the court process or a willingness to learn is essential.

We aim high for our young people and prioritize collaborative work with families and young people, recognizing the importance of their support networks. We invest heavily in training our Social Workers, including family network and practice models such as systemic, signs of safety, restorative, and family networking approaches.

The role is diverse; no two days are the same. You might spend one day completing words and pictures with a family and the next supporting a young person with pathway planning to independence. We work with young people from birth to 18, maintaining strong links with external agencies and teams across North Yorkshire.

The team includes a Team Manager and Practice Supervisors who support our Social Workers. Dedicated business support allows Social Workers more time with children and families. Our supervision policy includes regular group and individual supervisions, practice model sessions, and opportunities for professional development, such as appreciative enquiry and practice cafés with our Principal Social Worker.

We are innovative in our approach; no two plans are alike. Supported by new technology and a dedicated business support team, our staff have more time to spend with young people. Our office is accessible, with ample free parking, and is conveniently located near Knaresborough and Scarborough stations, with plenty of local amenities.

About You

We seek Social Workers with a proactive, child-focused attitude who are creative and think outside the box in planning with children.

Whether you are starting your career, returning to practice, or an experienced worker seeking a new challenge, we welcome your application. Be the change you trained to be.
