Morgan Prestwich is proud to be partnering with a dynamic and growing charity dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by neurological rare diseases. Through support, education, and research, this organisation makes a meaningful difference in the lives of approximately 600 families across the UK.

Position Overview

On behalf of our client, we are seeking a Chief Scientific Officer. This role requires a deep understanding of neuroscience, neurology, and channelopathies, along with a genuine interest in the impact these conditions have on affected families. Within this key leadership position, you will be responsible for developing and implementing the charity's strategic research and scientific engagement plan, ensuring its success in advancing the organisation’s mission.

Must Haves

  • A Master’s (M.S.) or Doctorate (Ph.D.) degree with at least two years of post-baccalaureate experience managing scientific projects in academic, industrial, non-profit, or government environments.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail, with demonstrated ability to manage a dynamic and evolving workload independently. Proven experience in setting priorities, meeting deadlines, and driving projects to completion, including developing and managing budgets effectively.
  • Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific concepts clearly and persuasively in both written and verbal formats, tailored to diverse audiences including scientific, clinical, and non-specialist groups.
  • Confidence and expertise in delivering presentations, leading meetings, networking, and engaging professionally with a wide range of stakeholders, from researchers and clinicians to patients and the public.
  • A strong collaborative mindset, with the ability to work effectively as part of a remote team. The ideal candidate will be committed to continuous learning and sharing knowledge to foster team growth and success.
  • Proficiency in technology tools and platforms, including hosting web meetings, teleconferences, securely sharing documents online, and scheduling across multiple time zones. Familiarity with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Google Suite is essential.

Location

Remote (UK based) with up to 20% travel.

Remuneration/Package

Given the salary on offer, this role may be particularly well-suited to either an experienced scientific leader approaching retirement or an academic professional seeking to transition into a new, impactful career. The position offers flexibility and can be full-time or part-time (ideally for a minimum of four days per week).
