Job summary

Kingston & Richmond NHS Foundation Trust Pharmacy Department is seeking a Senior Technician to lead ePMA and digital services. You will maintain the EPMA system, deliver training across disciplines and influence prescribing safety through system enhancements.

Qualifications

• BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences (Essential).
• NVQ Level 3 in pharmaceutical services (or equivalent).
• Registered with the GPHC (Essential).
• Additional qualifications or training in digital health or IT systems (Desirable).

Responsibilities

• Maintain and optimise the Trust EPMA systems as part of the Pharmacy Digital Team.
• Provide expert training and support to multidisciplinary staff on the EPMA system.
• Design and implement system changes to promote safe prescribing per Trust guidelines.
• Collaborate with wider Digital Teams on projects, upgrades and testing.
• Develop prescribing protocols and decision support tools in line with policy.

Job summary
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Pharmacy Technician with a passion for digital healthcare, who is looking to take their next career step and join us as a Chief Technician, ePMA.
As part of our established Pharmacy Digital and Informatics Team, you'll help us maintain, develop and optimise the EPMA system, working with colleagues from across the Trust to improve prescribing and patient safety.
You’ll work with a broad range of people along the way. Supporting colleagues individually and delivering training to larger groups, to contributing to multidisciplinary discussions, digital projects and system developments, you’ll have the opportunity to build relationships across different professions and specialties.
We're looking for someone who can explain things clearly, find creative ways to make training engaging and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves when problems needs solving.
Healthcare is becoming increasingly digital, and this role gives you the opportunity to be at the forefront of that change. You’ll expand your specialist skills in EPMA systems, while using your pharmacy knowledge to challenge existing ways of working and help us improve how medicines are prescribed and administered.
Unlike a lot of digital pharmacy technician roles, you’ll still have the opportunity to retain your operational pharmacy skills in the dispensary, but the majority of your role will focus on our digital medicines systems and supporting the people who use them.

• To help maintain and optimise our Trust Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (EPMA) systems as an integral member of the Pharmacy Digital Team.
• Provide expert training and support to multidisciplinary staff using the Trust Oracle Cerner Millenium EPMA system.
• Working with multidisciplinary teams to design and implement system changes to promote safe prescribing in line with Trust clinical guidelines.
• Work in collaboration with the wider Trust Digital Teams on projects, system upgrades and configuration and regression testing.
• Design, build and implement prescribing protocols, order sets and clinical decision support tools in line with Trust guidelines.
• Contribute to medication safety initiatives through system design, audit and continuous quality improvement.

Qualifications
Essential

• BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences
• NVQ Level 3 in pharmaceutical services (or equivalent)
• Registered with the GPHC
• Additional qualifications or training in digital health or IT systems

Experience and Skills
Essential

• Previous NHS Hospital Pharmacy
• Good understanding of medicines optimisation and the role of digital systems in improving patient safety
• Providing support and technical expertise on hospital electronic prescribing and administration systems
• Proven ability to master new systems rapidly
• Knowledge of professional code of conduct and guidance issued by the GPhC
• Knowledge of health informatics
• Experience with Healthcare IT computer systems
