Job summary

Bath & North East Somerset Council seeks an outstanding senior leader to become Head of Community & Compliance, guiding a pivotal portfolio at the heart of Place Management and Sustainable Communities. You will lead around 150 staff and manage a multimillion-pound revenue and capital portfolio while engaging with Members and stakeholders to deliver safe, compliant and compassionate services.

The role requires credible leadership in politically sensitive settings, plus experience in risk, safety

Qualifications

• Significant experience leading complex, multidisciplinary services within local government or the public sector.
• Strong judgement and credibility in politically sensitive environments.
• Proven ability to manage risk, safety and compliance across varied contexts.

Responsibilities

• Setting clear strategic direction across statutory and nonstatutory services.
• Providing corporate coordination and assurance across overlapping workstreams.
• Leading on risk management, safety, compliance and emergency planning.
• Driving continuous improvement, performance and governance.
• Building relationships with Members, regulators and stakeholders.
• Leading senior managers and fostering an inclusive, high-performing culture.
• Ensuring services are customer-focused and accessible.
