''Creating a great place to be cared for and a great place to work''
University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay has a firm commitment to strengthening the diversity of our workforce, and therefore welcome and encourage applications from likeminded people who can support our ambition to become effortlessly inclusive. We are particularly keen to hear from protected groups – including BAME, LGBT+ and people with a disability.
We are seeking a dynamic, values-driven Chief Financial Officer to join the Board of UHMB, a forward-thinking NHS provider dedicated to delivering outstanding care to our communities. This is a rare opportunity to shape the future at a time of significant transformation across the NHS.
It’s an exciting time to join our team, as we re-imagine services with a focus on the shift of treatment to prevention, hospital to community, and analogue to digital, with a focus on sustainability. A new clinical service blueprint across Lancashire and South Cumbria has been developed that we now need to implement. We are working with place partners to develop innovative neighbourhood programmes to address health inequalities and are now implementing a new operating model across the Trust.
There is significant investment and development across our geography, including the Eden Project North coming to Morecambe and the Government’s investment in the submarine building programme. Barrow Rising unites industry, education, health, transport, housing, and community regeneration to unlock potential and create a transformative opportunity for change.
We need you to be a team player, willing to challenge traditional thinking, provide inspirational leadership, and be committed to our journey of change and transformation.
The Chief Financial Officer will actively participate in shaping and implementing clinical, corporate, and improvement strategies to achieve clinical transformation and financial sustainability across the Bay and the Lancashire and South Cumbria integrated care system.
The CFO is a full voting member of the Board of Directors and will play a significant role in the organisation's corporate affairs as an Executive Director and member of the Unitary Board.
The CFO will share responsibility, with other executive directors, for ensuring the safety and quality of patient care, leading the workforce, setting the strategic direction of the Trust, delivering performance and financial sustainability, and maintaining relationships with external partners.
The first stage of the selection process will take place on Friday 20th June 2025 at Westmorland General Hospital.
We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, along with community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and RLI offer a range of hospital services, including Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units, and various specialist clinics.
WGH provides general hospital services, an Urgent Treatment Centre, and facilities to treat non-life-threatening conditions like minor injuries and illnesses.
All three hospitals provide planned care services, including outpatient clinics, diagnostics, therapies, day surgeries, and inpatient care. Additional outreach services and diagnostics are available across Morecambe Bay.
