Job description

TWYD & Co is advising the Board of an established, privately owned business on the appointment of its next Chief Executive Officer.

The organisation comprises several operating businesses, each with its own leadership team, customers and commercial priorities. It is successful, financially secure and ambitious about its future.

The CEO will take responsibility for the performance and continued development of the organisation as a whole.

This is not simply about running a larger version of one business. It requires someone who can lead through other senior leaders, establish clear accountability across different businesses and provide a strong sense of direction without becoming drawn too deeply into every operational decision.

Working closely with the Chair and Board, the CEO will:

  • provide clear leadership and direction across the organisation;
  • support and challenge the leaders of its individual businesses;
  • strengthen accountability, performance and collaboration;
  • determined where to invest, develop or change;
  • ensure that growth is commercially sound and properly managed; and
  • shape the next stage of the organisation’s development.

We are interested in experienced Chief Executives, Managing Directors, Chief Operating Officers and divisional leaders who have operated across more than one business, market or operating model.

Candidates do not need to come from a particular sector, although experience of B2B services would be of particular interest. More important will be evidence that they can understand different businesses, ask the right questions and distinguish between matters requiring their involvement and those best left with the individual leadership teams.

The successful candidate is likely to bring:

  • experience of leading at group, divisional or multi-business level;
  • strong commercial and financial judgement;
  • the ability to work effectively with an active Board and private shareholders;
  • a measured, straightforward and low-ego leadership style;
  • the confidence to challenge constructively and make difficult decisions;
  • a strong record of developing capable senior leaders; and
  • the ability to combine strategic perspective with a firm grasp of operational performance.

This is a substantial leadership opportunity within a well-established organisation. It should appeal to someone who values breadth, responsibility and the opportunity to make a meaningful, long-term contribution.

This is a full-time role based in Yorkshire. The successful candidate will be expected to spend at least three days each week in the region.

The package will include a competitive base salary, annual performance-related bonus and long-term incentive plan.

TWYD & Co is committed to promoting equality of opportunity. We welcome applications from suitably qualified candidates irrespective of age, disability, gender identity, marital or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation.
