Job summary

UK Atomic Energy Authority seeks a Head of Engineering – Materials Division to provide strategic engineering leadership for the division and to guide the design, construction, and commissioning of major facilities across MRF I–III. The role focuses on developing long-term maintenance strategies and acting as Design Authority for new engineering across the division.

Qualifications

• Degree in engineering discipline; Chartered Engineer preferred for senior leadership in a research environment.
• Experience with high hazard plant safety management or technical management in complex facilities.
• Experience leading large multidisciplinary teams and delivering major projects within agreed timelines.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering leadership for the Materials Division across existing and planned facilities (MRF I–III).
• Lead design, build, installation and commissioning, and develop long-term maintenance strategies.
• Govern engineering policy, standards and governance; ensure compliance with Culham site requirements and external partner needs.
• Present progress, risks and resources to ExCo and external stakeholders; align plans with UKAEA mission.
