Job summary

ChampionX in Aberdeen, UK, is seeking a Chemist to join the Analytical team on a temporary 12-month basis. The role will conduct water analysis using ICP, IC and HPLC, and provide analytical support across product lines, with a view to integration into SLB.

The successful candidate will learn ChampionX product lines, maintain laboratory equipment, handle sample logging, write technical reports, and uphold COSHH safety practices while working collaboratively within a high-performing team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related science.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a high-performing team.

Responsibilities

• Conduct water analysis testing using techniques such as ICP, IC and HPLC.
• Support senior team members with project-focused work and development of new test methodologies.
• Provide support to Goods In with logging of received samples and materials.
• Technical report writing and database management.
• Learn about ChampionX product lines and their applications.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment including calibration scheduling and record-keeping.
• Maintain laboratory cleanliness and housekeeping.
• Communicate effectively with team members to support efficient lab operations.
• Implement and follow Company safety practices, including COSHH and risk assessments.

Job description

SLB completed the acquisition of ChampionX on July 16, 2025. If selected for this position, your employment will begin with ChampionX and will transition to SLB as part of the planned integration.

We are looking for a Chemist to join our Analytical team in Aberdeen , UK on a temporary 12 month basis. The candidate will be responsible for conducting water analysis, including scaling ions and scale inhibitor residuals, and will provide analytical support to the various product line groups within the wider Eastern Hemisphere RD&E team.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Batchelor’s Degree (BSc.) in Chemistry or related science
• Good computer skills with experience in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a high-performing team.

Physical Demands:

• May involve long periods of standing working in a laboratory.

Preferred Qualifications and Competencies:

• Previous experience in liquid chromatography.
• Readily learns and adapts to changing workload.
• Willing to take on unfamiliar tasks and learn from experiences.
