Job Summary

Southern Soul operates as an independent food trader at Canteen Food Hall & Ball in North Greenwich, very close to the O2 Arena. We serve buns and sides influenced by the BBQ culture in the Southern USA. We brine and smoke our meat in house, we make our pickles and sauces, as well as our own buns, in house. We take pride in our menu and expect our staff to uphold high standards. Our operating hours are 11:30-21:00 Monday to Sunday.

The space is heavily influenced by events at the O2 Arena, so busy periods are inconsistent throughout the year. It requires an adaptable individual who can cope with busy service rushes and also be pro-active through the quiet times. The quiet times are very quiet.

  • A competent Chef de Partie with minimum one year’s experience.
  • Competent with meat prep.
  • Experience of baking preferred but not mandatory
  • A highly organised individual with good task and time management skills.
  • Good knowledge of health and safety and food hygiene (minimum level 2).
  • A clean and tidy worker.
  • A pro-active mindset: someone who can work independently and efficiently.
  • Staff management, leadership. You will lead ad-hoc staff on busy event nights.
  • A passion for kitchen work and great attention to detail.
  • Someone who is comfortable with a customer facing role.

Role responsibilities

  • Perform menu prep confidently.
  • Maintain an organised and clean kitchen.
  • Stay on top of stock inventory.
  • Independently run service in the kiosk, cooking menu items and serving customers.
  • Competence on all three sections in Kiosk, including taking orders, cooking fries at volume in a Rational oven, stacking/wrapping and sending orders on the pass.
  • Flexibility on event nights depending on the staff we have in to work alongside you.
  • The ability to organise tickets on the pass and call out orders confidently.
  • Ensuring that the kiosk is set up for busy periods on event nights.
  • Maintain high and consistent standards of the food we serve.
  • Ensure shifts are filled for busy event nights, checking the O2 events calendar.
  • Lead ad-hoc staff on event nights, co-ordinate service, ensure staff are aware and competent of what is expected of them during their shift.
  • Foster a positive dining experience and encourage repeat business.
  • Maintain an organised and clean kiosk, staying on top of kiosk inventory.
  • Proactively seek ways we can enhance customer experiences and improve our menu
  • Ensure all food safety rules are complied with, for example accurate and up-to-date labelling and temperate checking of fridges, cooked food and hot held food
