Job description

The Terrace is the only Isle of Wight restaurant listed in the Michelin, Good Food, AA, Hardens & Square Meal guides. Located by the sea in Yarmouth, we've now spent six years pleasing locals and visitors alike with quality-first modern bistro cooking and friendly, efficient and interested service. We're family owned and operated, and above making our guests happy we're really proud of our employment and career development record on the Island.

Our kitchen team use good ingredients, cook everything from scratch, maintain a very clean, well‑organised work environment, and have a positive outlook to both their colleagues and their careers. Currently all members of the team could be at least sous chef in any quality establishment so there is real maturity, equality and respect shown within the workplace.

With one of our existing chefs moving to the mainland to continue his career we are seeking a new team member to begin work from January. The role can really be at any level. You can jump straight into a section, join as a trainee or work with the rest of the team to own senior responsibilities - it really depends on what you want and where you feel comfortable.

Our team work 4-5 days weekly across the year averaging 50 hours. In summer we open seven days in the offseason 4.5. We serve a roast on Sunday, a set lunch in winter and a seasonal a la carte all year round.

While experience is useful, attitude is far more important. You'll be a good communicator, have pride in your own work and be focused on learning and contributing within a team. If you've run a section in a good kitchen before, that's great, even more so if you've had responsibility for a pass or kitchen paperwork, but the key thing we look for above all else is a desire to cook quality food within a supportive team working for a supportive employer in a mature environment.

You'll also need to be able to get to Yarmouth with complete reliability so please consider your transport situation when applying.

In return you'll get a competitive salary, fair and reasonable hours, great tips, constant training & development, a clean, tidy, well organised kitchen with fully working equipment to work in, the chance to work with quality produce, an employer who will always listen, and a rota that's released at least two weeks in advance.
