Job summary

Abbeyfield Living Society is seeking a Chef for Hill House in Honiton. The role involves planning and preparing nutritious meals, consulting with residents on menus, and working with the Catering Manager to deliver high-quality, varied dishes while controlling costs and maintaining hygiene standards.

The position requires a Food Hygiene certificate and experience cooking for large groups, with 30 hours per week over 3 days and a 6-month FTC.

Qualifications

  • Relevant Certificate in Food Hygiene required.
  • Experience cooking healthy, safe meals for large groups regularly.
  • Ability to plan rotas and manage catering resources.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and consult on healthy balanced menus with residents.
  • Plan, prepare and cook meals per the agreed menu.
  • Seek resident feedback on menu and food quality.
  • Work with Catering Manager to provide healthy, delicious meals.
  • Maintain stock rotation and control to manage catering costs.
  • Oversee safe use of catering equipment.
  • Ensure kitchen and store areas are clean and hygienic at all times.

We are now looking for a Chef to join our team at Hill House.
Role: Chef
Location: Hill House, Dunkeswell Road, Combe Raleigh, Honiton. EX14 4UQ
Pay: £15.14 - £15.45 p/h
Hours: 30 Hours per week over 3 days. FTC 6 months.

The Role of a Chef:
  • As a Care Home Chef; You'll develop, in consultation with residents, healthy balanced menus, with choices which reflect their needs and preferences.
  • Plan, prepare and cook residents’ meals from the agreed menu, taking into account personal preferences or recognised dietary requirements.
  • Regularly seeking feedback, you’ll monitor their satisfaction with the menu and quality of the food provided.
  • Work alongside our Catering Manager and other members of the team to provide residents with healthy, delicious meals
  • Maintenance of a system of effective stock rotation and control is paramount, and by doing so, you will manage catering costs within the agreed catering budget.
  • Oversee safe and proper use of catering equipment.
  • Champion kitchen cleaning procedures and schedules and ensure your kitchen and store areas are clean and hygienic at all times. You will also oversee the completion of all relevant records in relation to food safety.

About You:
  • As a Chef, you’ll have a relevant Certificate in Food Hygiene, and a track record of demonstrable experience of cooking varied, healthy and safe meals to large groups on a regular basis.
  • You’ll also be able to manage resources, planning rotas in advance to ensure continuity of the catering service.
  • Be methodical and highly organised; the kitchen and equipment will be kept clean and tidy, with an effective method of stock rotation.

Please note this role will require eligibility to work in the UK, two satisfactory employment references and an Enhanced DBS check, the cost of which will be met by Abbeyfield.
